Natural Birth

Desmond Hampton is here...

And was a completely natural birth! A quick one at that; 6 hours from when water broke, 3ish hours from when contractions actually started.

It was so fast, they didn't even get all of the monitoring they want to have done at the hospital on baby to allow me to get up out of bed, which was fine, because I ended up not wanting to get up because contractions were about 30 seconds apart and lasted for over a minute. AH.

He came out all 5 lbs 14 oz 18 inches long the night before Thanksgiving after about 20 minutes of pushing.

It was fast, painful, and an amazing experience that I'm still processing!

Re: Desmond Hampton is here...

  • Congratulations! Enjoy your new little one :-)

PS I also had a fast delivery and ended up having kind of a hard time processing...I felt like it was something that happened to me instead of something I did, you know? If you end up feeling like that I found it helped me to walk through the birth with my husband several times. My doula said it's common for moms with quick deliveries to have a hard time processing and talking about it helps.

  • Congrats on your almost Thanksgiving baby!  I had a fast labor as well and felt like it was over in the blink of an eye. I hope my next one will slow down a little bit so I can enjoy it.
  • Thanks for the advice!!! Yeah, right afterwards it was felt a little "out of body." I couldn't believe it when they said I was at a 9; I'd had all of these plans; get in the tub, wear a gown I'd bought, listen to a playlist, heck, we even had card games to play to pass the time! I'm thankful I didn't have to endure the crazy close contractions for long, though! We were in the hospital for only like, 36 hours total, so it really was a whirlwind.

Apparently, the labor I had was EXACTLY the labor my mom had when she delivered me. Her next labor and delivery was 2 1/2 hours. ;)

  • Oh what an adorable LO!! So cute. Congratulations. My labor seemed fast at first but then slowed down somewhat, but even still I found it helpful to write it down at least three different times, and talk about it to as many people as who would listen.

Yeesh this is EXACTLY what I am afraid of with my next birth and is the reason we are seriously considering home birth. My first labor was 4 1/2 hours...no lead-up, I just woke up from a nap in hard labor with ctx 2 minutes apart (at 36.6 ...so I really wasn't expecting it at all!). My husband works an hour away so we joke that he is going to have to take a month off  before the baby is born so that he is sure to make it to the birth!
