Doll for DS?

We just found out we're expecting #2 and I wanted to get DS a doll, since he's really into cars, trucks, balls; something that he can be gentle with and care for. Any recommendations?

DS has two babies. Both were cheap, plastic head stuffed body dolls, less than $10 each. He likes to hold them, sometimes by the neck lol, or stuffs them into his car and drives them around, and occasionally throws them across the room. He really hasn't got the gentle thing from them, but we don't really push it either.

Are you looking for something specific or just any baby doll?

If you want a baby looking baby...we have the Corelle Calin dolls that both kids like. The Haba dolls are also super cute if you want something more like a "buddy" doll - both of my kids like those too.

We have an IKEA doll. I like that it's totally soft because A likes to throw him when he's done putting him to bed and sharing food.

My oldest is a daughter, so when my son came along 4 years later, there were always a bunch of "babies" around. I'm very careful not to push my kids to play in a certain way based on gender roles. Having both a boy and a girl makes this easier.

However, I have to say that my son principally enjoyed taking the dolls for wild rides in their dolly strollers. It was sort of alarming!

On the other hand, he has a number of stuffed animals that he treats with (usually) the type of gentle TLC you're probably hoping to evoke. He has two stuffed cats: Tiger and Snuggle-kitty. He has done all the things you want to encourage with these stuffed animals. He feeds them (either from a baby bottle or pretend cat food), wraps them up, puts them to bed, teaches them in "school" and all kinds of stuff. So.darn.cute!! He just feels more comfortable with animals than with a baby doll. I can relate. As a little girl, I really hated dolls. All my "babies" were stuffed animals.

I would certainly not hesitate to get a baby doll, but if he doesn't take to it asap, don't despair.

I'm with the PP who mentioned stuffed animals--our friend's daughter is almost 2 and bangs her baby dolls around like crazy, but seems to learn "gentle" better with stuffed animals (and pets--she's great with pets!). Maybe it's the soft texture--not sure! Do you think you could let him pick it out himself and see if he gravitates toward an animal or doll or baby doll?

I like the Corelle dolls a lot, too. My mom finds them for cheap of TJ maxx and Tuesday Morning.

Both my sons have dogs from ikea that they adore. We have a severe baby doll shortage in our house right now, mainly bc my niece has taken them all to her house, sigh. I would just get at least one of each, it is always hard to determine what kids will become attached to. hth

Congrats!

We bought this doll for DS and gave it to him when DD was born. I wanted it to be soft so that he couldn't hurt the baby with it by accident. It is nice and soft like a stuffed animal. I also liked that it wasn't pink. I don't really care for pink and never understand why all girl toys have to be pink. I bought a cheap sleep & play on clearence in a primie size and it fits the doll pretty well.
