I don't think a woman should breast feed at a restaurant. Ex-BFF did it last night WHILE SHE WAS EATING. And it's certainly not the first time she's done it...
She should definitely have gone to sit on the toilet while her food got cold.
Uh huh. Babies should have to eat in bathrooms, you know.
BOOBIES ARE GROSS AND DIRTY.
Unless you wash them.
Yeah, I'm just mocking the idea that breastfeeding is inappropriate in any public place. I didn't actually mean, like, covered in dirt.
To clarify, I didn't say any public place. IM(clearly very unpopular)O, there should be some boundaries though.
I don't think babies should go hungry and I don't think breastfeeding mother's should go sit in the restrooms if they don't want either. I know quite a few friends who did NOT want to breastfeed in front of people and would go to their car, to a room off to the side, if it was available, or some other option because THEY were uncomfortable about it. I do however think that because it's a public place, women should respect that they are other people (and families! Parents aren't always ready to explain that to younger ones.) around and use a cover or be at least slightly discreet while "setting up." I've been witness to boobs I didn't really want to be witness of because ladies just weren't so private. Covers are quite nice though and very cute now!
What is there to explain that's so hard? That a woman is FEEDING her child with her body, as it was designed to do. It's not like she's having sex in the middle of the restaurant. If you're uncomfortable BFing in public, that's fine, you should do whatever you are comfortable with. But there is absolutely no reason that someone should have to hide someplace because they are doing something as innocent as feeding their babies. Attitudes like this, from women especially IMO, set us back so many years. If you're looking at me so closely you can see my boob when I "set up" you're looking way too close. Especially if you are just another person at the restaurant, not even at my table.

A restaurant doesn't bother me, but a woman did it at church the other day. It really bothered me. But maybe because ANYTHING some other woman and her baby does bothers me.

This one is interesting to me. I could never bring myself to BF at church, even though I would literally do it anytime, anyplace else (without a cover, the horror!). But I just couldn't do it in church. And I'm not sure why because I am religious and I believe that God gave me boobs to feed my child, so I will use them. But if DS ever got hungry at church, I did leave. Just one of those weird hangups I guess.

I wouldn't think she'd have to leave church, but a pew in the back or off to the side seems more, for the lack of a better word, appropriate. Plus, our church has a great open area at the back to still enjoy mass but be a little more discreet, or where moms take their fussy or sleepy LOs.

I have never read/watched: Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and probably never will. Or 50 Shades of Grey; just doesn't appeal to me.
It hurts my heart a little bit that HP is in the same bucket as 50 Shades
Hah, I will say, if I ever read any of those, HP or Hunger Games would be the ones. I was lumping them into a "things that are wildly popular" category, and that's probably unfair to JK Rowling and Suzanne Whatshername, who I've heard are very talented writers. I am just one of those lazy people who can't be bothered to try something new if I'm not at all interested, and I've never been interested in any of those genres. ("Those genres" being sci-fi, fantasy, sorcery, futuristic, and "mommy porn," to use the slightly offensive mainstream term.) Zombies aren't on the list, but they also scare the bejesus outta me.
Can we still be twinsies? I promise I have other redeeming qualities!
It's ok. I'll keep you.
But I do 1000x's recommend reading HP. I resisted them for a long time, but once I finally read them I realized how awesome the story and message is. They're my go to when I'm sad. Seriously H read them out loud to me when I was waiting for my d and c. They've gotten me though a mess of shlt. Hunger games are also good, but not the same caliber.

Did you even read what I said? Where did I say I have a problem with breastfeeding in public? I didn't. I said that I'd like the breast feeding mothers to just respect the people around them. I'm talking about ladies who just pull their shirts down and expose both breasts not just enough to get comfortable and baby latched on, but like it's freaking girls gone wild. I realize they are JUST breasts and their using them as they were meant to be but that doesn't mean everyone in the place needs to see them. So, no, I don't have an opinion or an "attitude that sets us back years". I would just like some modesty from some ladies. I don't have a problem with people breast feeding in public. I hope one day I'll get the chance to breast feed. If I do, I'll be doing it in public. Under a cover, because I think that's what's respectful to the people around me.
Hi Maddielynn,
I'm sorry if I offended you. I was reading/bumping on mobile and a lot of the responses blended together and I confused you with the OP. While I do disagree that in order to be respectful you need to use a cover, I do apologize for my statement about setting women back, that wasn't directed at you (well, I guess it was, but it shouldn't have been). What I think sets us back is the idea that women shouldn't breastfeed in public (or even just certain public places), like it's something dirty. That is what drives me crazy. Hope you'll accept my apology. I'm really much better at bumping from a computer and should probably do that before I jump into what can be a heated topic ;-)

When you look at what Rowling did with Harry Potter, it is amazing. She planned out those seven books and knew the ending before writing the first sentence of the first book - which is why a character will be mentioned in passing in one book and not show up again for another 3.

MH loves WF. We have a pretty extensive WF dvd collection and MH randomly quotes the movies. Right now Anchorman and The Other Guys rank at the top with the best one-liners.
Oh the BF topic- if your boobs are showing all over the place when you're nursing, you're doin it wrong, I've never seen exposed nip from nursing moms. And even if I did, who cares?. Srsly, it's not a matter of people feeling uncomfortable. Eff them if they do! Hello, that's what they're for! Feeding babies. That kind of attitude perpetuates the judgemental mentality that keep so many from breastfeeding. I think people should BF wherever they want. And I am glad there are laws to protect it.
And call me crunchy or whatever, it's the most natural thing in the world. It's the people who are uncomfortable with it that are weird. That said, I cannot stand lactivists and target nurse-ins. That does nothing for the cause and they are a bunch of AWs. They are weirdos too.
