and PUPPPS it is....

so i posted on here i believe last week about itchy skin..... well things have gotten worse since then. (thank you to everyone who did try to help though) i called my doc monday almost in tears because my whole body is being covered by this rash. it really looks like eczema. but its starting to itch so much it can hurt!

after my doc and a few nurses looked at me they said i had PUPPPS. (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy) they said it cant harm baby or myself. its just more annoying then anything and will NOT go away untill after LO is born. they also said about 1 in 200 pregnant women get this and its more common in women who have boys. which i am having.

for now they want me to take benydryl at night and use a anti itch cream and and soothing body wash. they will check me out again monday to see if they need to give me something stronger.

does anyone else have this?!?!??!?? if so what are you doing to help the itch!!

  • I don't have it yet this time but I did have it my last pregnancy. It's miserable and I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Mine got worse for a few days after delivery too, but then went away pretty quickly after that. Try Grandpa's Pine Tar soap you can find it at GNC. It smells awful, but it helped me a lot. I also used cold clothes when the itching got really bad.

  • I had it last pregnancy, I'm sorry you have to go through it, it is awful.  The soap as pp said did help but I also used Sarna lotion it's over the counter I went through so many of those I lost count I would just lather it all over my body and it helped!

  • Trays what I had when I was pregnant with my DS, who was my first. Apparently it is most common to first time mothers as well. I haven't had it with either of my subsequent pregnancies. As I suggested before, something with menthol in it really helped me. Sorry : I know how miserable it is.

  • I don't have it this time, thank God, but did with my last pregnancy.

I tried the Aveeno Oatmeal baths, but they didn't help much, one thing that did help me was putting cold packs on the rash. Mine was mostly on my stomach and the cold packs would make the skin somewhat numb for a little while so it didn't itch. Mine went away pretty much right after I had my son.

I heard that not only is it more common in pregnancies with boys (mine was also a boy) but also that you are less likely to have it with subsequent pregnancies, so hopefully if you have another LO later you won't have it again.

GL to you, PUPPPS is awful!

  • Ugh, I'm sorry. Pupps is the worst. A friend of mine would make a baking soda paste for her belly. She said it was the only thing that would help. Hope you're able to find some relief.

  • Oh no! I don't have it, but I have heard about it. Sounds so awful. Luckily, it's "just" annoying, and not dangerous. I hope you get some relief soon!
