hot yoga

Any thoughts on whether hot yoga is safe? My gym offers this but I know how hot I get without being pregnant I wonder if its safe to do pregnant.

Re: hot yoga

  • I have been told to stay away from it, because of the heat and the excess sweating it can reduce the blood supply to the fetus.

  • My doctor said no hot yoga.  The heat can cause excess water loss which is not good for the baby.  She said that I need to stay very hydrated while working out so it is safe for me and the baby, and hot yoga isn't good.

  • Unless you had a regular practice before you got pregnant, it isn't a great idea.
  • I went to hot yoga 3-5 times a week before I got pregnant, and my doctor told me, it isn't safe during pregnancy.

I practiced Bikram yoga pre-pregnancy and do continue and will continue to practice as long as I care to. There are three instructors at my studio who are pregnant and lots of students who are too. As long as you have a solid practice beforehand and know how to modify poses for pregnancy, there's no problem.

That said, it sounds like you haven't been practicing it pre-pregnancy, so I wouldn't suggest starting it now.
