Has anyone been diagnosed with either diastasis recti [abdomen separation] or an umbilical hernia?
I tried to ask my OB about DR at my last appointment... and no surprise [I really don't like any of the actual doctors who deliver at this place] she completely just ignored my question. There's almost a full inch gap between my abs now, my back aches from lack of ab support & tonight my belly button hurts so bad [itchy & painful] and it looks like only the top part right above my belly button is starting to protrude.
I know it's not really a big deal if it's a hernia, it'll be fixed when we're done having kids just wondering if anyone else on the board is dealing with either! Let us complain together because this discomfort is really going to make the next few weeks crawl.
Re: Diastasis/Hernia Ladies?
So the good news is that diastasis recti is not actually a true hernia, meaning there is no defect in the abdominal wall and so you don't have to worry about your bowel getting trapped or needing emergency surgery or anything like that.
If I'm not mistaken it will probably fix itself once you deliver and your body has a chance to tighten back down.
It is possible to have an umbilical hernia which might show up only at pregnancy and might need surgical correction, but if it is the line between your abs type of protrusion then you are probably fine.
