Cloth diaper check in

So are babies are a couple months old now so I thought I'd do a check in to see how it's going for the cloth diaper moms. Are you still using cloth, how do you like it? What diapers do you love? Are there any you don't like? Any problems so far?

Re: Cloth diaper check in

  • We love our cloth diapers. We use mostly BG free times and elementals. I dislike the 2 Grovia diapers I purchased. I didn't purchase cd safe diaper cream so right now we are using disposables and the few fleece liners I have till it comes in the mail. I so far really enjoy it. I go back to work on Monday and am hoping I feel the same way. Daycare is very familiar with them.

  • I'm loving cloth diapers! Everytime he is in a disposable he poops up his back which has never happened in cloth. I'm starting to get lazy with it, if I don't have anything that needs to go in the dryer I leave them in there instead of folding them in the designated bins. My favorite diapers are tots bots, so soft and awesome aplix! I love the trimness of swaddlebees sized diapers and the cute prints. I thought bum genius 4.0 were bulky but now that he's bigger I'm liking them a lot more. I didn't like fuzzibunz sized diapers they are the only ones we've had leaks with. The only problem I'm having is trying not to buy more, they are addicting. I think I'd only spring for the tots bots but the prints I want are never in stock.

do the free times take as long as the elementals to dry? I love my two elementals but they take like two days to dry I swear.

  • Love it, love it, love it! I was concerned that I would hate the laundry aspect, but I've found it's pretty easy. We've had no blowouts, which was welcome after the first few weeks in sposies, and no diaper rash issues at all.

I adore Swaddlebees (best patterns ever!) and BG Freetime. I really like the BG Elemental, though I hate the dry time. I like my FuzziBuns, though I'm not a big fan of stuffing them, so they've become my back-up diapers. And I cannot stand my Thirsties- they leak, no matter what I do.

Edit: All of ours are OS AIOs except the FBs, which are OS Elite.

Love CDing..we use bg 4.0 snaps and velcro...no issues at all so far.

I still feel like I'm learning, but I definitely have a system down.

Ordered a swaddlebee aio today, hoping to get some decent BF deals this weekend to build my stash more. Im nervous about daycare.
do you know which sites are offering the best deals?

Not at all (or anywhere close)! One dry cycle and they are done :)

  • We're new to cloth and have only been at it for about 2 weeks. I bought a few but am also on a jillian's trial which has been really great at helping weed through what I like and what I don't.

I love the flip covers with the stay dry although it is still pretty bulky. Surprisingly I really don't care for the organic inserts.

The freetimes and the elementals are just too much bulk but the 4.0 agent too bad.

I love rumparooz but a big poop gets in the wrinkles of the internal gusset and is too much of a PITA to clean.

All the thirties just don't seem to sit right on DD.

I do love the osocozy prefolds and the fuzzybunz. I have the small size rather than the one size and they are so cute on her.

I think the biggest surprise to me was how much I love the Kawaii pure and natural. They are so cheap but they fit her so well! You can get them for less than 7.00!

I am really glad I went for the trial before buying a big stash of organic AIOs as they are at the bottom of the list now!

  • Still going strong and loving it!

We use mostly prefolds with covers. The wash routine is so easy. I also have a Sunbaby I love and I want to get more as our fancy going out diaper.

Just got wool longies off of etsy for winter Overnighting. So cute.

I don't like BG 4.0s. They dry out my LO's skin.

Main issue: MH doesn't do many diaper changes. I think he's a little intimidated. And I've probably scared him bc I'm a control freak with our stash!
  • I love love love CDing. I love my BG Freetimes something fierce. The day I started using those was the first night she STTN. DD was getting wicked diaper rashes in sposies and hasn't had one since starting CD at 5 weeks. I have a handful of BottomBumpers that I love some days more than others and a half dozen Elementals that I really like. I just ordered a couple Swaddlebee's so we'll see how those go.

Sweet Pickle ??? is having awesome Black Friday deals, FYI.

I love CDing. We use mostly the flip covers with cotton prefolds at home. For daycare/outside the house we use BG4.0, RaR, Swaddlebees AIO and Charlie Bananas. I have a few Kawaiis that I feel so so about. He always leaks in Thirsties pockets or covers which sucks because I have a lot of them.

We can't find a good nighttime solution yet. Suggestions?

We really like our BG Freetimes for nighttime. They are super absorbent.

  • Theluvyourbaby.com is the cheapest at six and change but shipping is pricey unless you spend 80.00 and get free shipping.

I ordered from snugglebottoms.com and paid a bit more, eight maybe. Shipping is free with no minimum and it was so quick.

So far I only need the one insert but if you have a heavy wetter you could use the infant insert too or a hemp or bamboo doubler. I've heard the best for night time if using a doubler doesn't work is a fitted with a wool cover.

We can't find a good nighttime solution yet. Suggestions?

weird I responded and it's not showing up. Try a doubler hemp or bamboo in you 4.0. if not I've heard fitteds with wool covers are leak proof.

I like it except he has skinny thighs like me so we get poop leaks often.

We have 33 BG 4.0 os. I have one rumparoo and one kawaii. We had GMD fitteds and prefold and covers for nb. Those were nice.

I don't care for the kawaii but do like the rumparooz and BG. I just hope he gets chunkier thighs soon :]

The elementals to take forever to dry. But I do a quick dry in the drier on low and then hang them. I only have 6 of those so I rely on the free times which air dry quick.

  • I love my cloth! Just packed away our newborn diapers last weekend when some more of my OS showed up in the mail. We have some prefolds and a free covers. I like my thirsties duo wrap but the aplix seems like it won't last for very long.

During the day, we primarily are using BG Freetimes. Love love love them! Never have a leak, and they are relatively trim. At night we use BG 4.0s. Right now he is just with one insert, but I plan on adding the newborn one next if he out-wets  them ( yep, I think I just made that word up).

We have a FB small pocket but we get leaks around the leg and we did with the newborn one as well. We also have a few Imagine covers and an AIO from Nikki's diapers just to have some cheap back ups. The Imagine pocket I like a lot.

I learned that changes go much more quuickly with aplix, which is important with our little screamer, but I doubt they will last as long. Excited for my Swaddlebees owl one to get here!

  • We are enjoying our CDing. We still use disposables for overnight because I need to strip out fitteds left over from big brother but waiting for rlr to come in. I bought a new system to use for ds1 to help with PTing and larger diapers since he's growing so fast so I now have more bg 4.0s to use for ds2 and will start using those for overnight. We use a combo of blueberry and bg pockets and prefolds and thirsties covers and haven't had any leaks or blowouts from them. I'm going to hunt for BF sales for wet bags and the training system for ds1.

All of ours are Fuzzibuns OS Elite and I have gotten good at stuffing them. Like anything else baby related it gets more routine with time!! I am loving CDing. I feel so much better putting nice fleecy diapers on him than plasticky sposies. And I swear he likes them better too.

    I'd feel bad for you, but.... I don't. ;)

I actually got SUPER big in my thighs during pregnancy. I loved it because I finally filled out a pair of jeans instead of them looking like saggy butt ones.

  • I looooooooooooooooooooooove my cloth diapers. I use Kawaii, Alva and Sunbaby. Love them all. My "bigger" kawaiis are still too big but the pure and naturals are awesome. I love all things cloth. I've never looked back. I feel like fist pumping because I had a bunch of people buy me disposables and they were all like "ummm yeah, good luck with that," *eye roll*.

  • Love them!!! I love my flips and BGs and ended up buying more of these. I thought prefolds and covers would be my favorites, but they just aren't. I use the flips mostly for during the days now and I use a BG overnight; I have gotten 10 hours out if it so far! The laundry is not bad at all and I'm so happy I like it and can prove the naysayers wrong, lol!

Like GDM said - poop in disposables ends up in a blow out these days. Haven't had a single leak or blow out in our Flips.

The only thing I'm slightly irritated about is the fact that our water bill has gone up $40/month. I expected to see an increase, but $40? (The bill has always been around $50-60... so going from that to $100 is a bit drastic to me.)

That seems insane. I'm assuming it's not an HE washer? ;) How many loads are you doing each month?

It is an HE washer. The only new thing is washing her stuff, so every other day with the CDs and then once a week for her clothes (usually one load). We've checked all of the sinks and toilets and such and nothing's leaking.

Anita - we use the Flips with their stay dry inserts. I don't double up the inserts and it is good for overnight. From last night, we went about 10 hours without changing and I felt the top of the insert to see if it still felt dry and it did. We've never had a leak in them. Since cotton babies has free shipping, maybe order an insert and see what you think? (Assuming you don't have one already.)

Have you checked that your water rate hasn't changed? This happened to us just after k was born. Our consumption went up a bit bc of extra laundry.but cost WAY more because the water co rates spiked.

  • We've been using cloth the entire time, and I'm loving it! These are sooooo much better than disposables. I like my pockets best. We started with PF but DS extremely dislikes being wet AT ALL. We still use the GM workhorse yellow edges during the day along with some fuzzy buns hand me downs and pockets at night...BG, Kawaii, Blueberry, and, Oh Katys.

  • I really wanted to like CD and have been really surprised how much I LOVE them!!!

It is so easy and the laundry is NBD.  I hope it stays this easy as we get bigger and move to solids.  I like all of my BGs, snaps better than the aplix bc the aplix seems stiff.

  • I failed at prefolds but he is in his BGs (aplix) now and I love them. Scored 9 of them used for $60 but they are in new condition, so now I have 19 and can wash every 3 days. Awesome!

  • I mostly use GMD prefolds and Thirsties Duo Wrap Snap covers. I much prefer the organic cotton from GMD over the white, but I'll take what I can get. I despise covers that don't have leg gussets (like Flip) and I don't like using the Flip system in general (just a liner + cover). I have one BG 4.0 and I like the general idea of pockets, but I am trying to stick to cotton instead of microfiber (less stink issues!)

Our favorite diaper is officially GMD workhorse fitteds. Easy to put on, super absorbent and secure and the grandparents can handle them. Also, sustainablebabyish organic bamboo fleece fitteds for nighttime. Those are seriously amazing.

I really want to try BG Elementals but the drying time and the cost are holding me back. Though I think AIO diapers would be so much easier during the toddler years (you know when you are trying to change a diaper while they are running away from you??).

I'm actually really sad about the fact that we will be traveling for 2 weeks at Christmastime and my in laws are hinting that they don't want us to be using the cloth at their house. Not excited about sposies again!
