Two Under 2

well there goes the crib!!

are you kidding!? DS climbed out and fell on his back yesterday! He's totally fine although i can't even imagine how much worse it could have been if he fell on his head or broke something...

we've turned the crib around so the high side is facing out and the one side piece is against the wall.

what am i supposed to do when i shower!? that was my only place to put him. he's a VERY busy 18.5 month old.

we weren't planning to put him in the toddler bed for a while, at least until baby came and we were a little more settled before making another big change for him!

any suggestions? anyone else go through this?

  • I would make sure his room is very babyproof and put a baby gate on the door, that way you can leave him safely in his room if you need to.  I would also start showering after he goes to sleep for the night or before he wakes up in the morning.

  • We had the same thing happen with DS when he was just over 2 - he got out of the crib, but didn't seem happy about it.  He fell and I think was scared by it.  We turned it around just like you did, and we didn't have a problem again.  We finally moved him to his crib at 3yo.

For showering, I put DS in a pack and play with the TV on.  When DD was bigger and moving around, I had 2 pnps next to each other, or one pnp and one super yard, with a show on for them.   DS started sitting nicely on the couch to watch the show when he was about 2.5, with DD in the pnp.  Only recently have they both been able to sit nicely on the couch while I shower.  They don't watch much TV, so that time is important to them!!

  • My daughter transitioned in one night, no issues. Wasn't hard on her at all.  Why ot just try it for a night?

  • DS1 is 18 months old, and he's been in a toddler bed since he was 13 months old.  He's above the 97th percentile for height, and he's very determined, and he was able to climb out way earlier than I was prepared for.  If I need to shower when I'm alone with him and he's awake, I just bring some toys into the bathroom for him to play with and take the quickest shower I can.  I have a pretty big bathroom, so he's got a good amount of room to play.

This is what I do. There's nothing he can break or hurt himself with in his room.
