Looking for two new seats for our second vehicle, and we don't want to spend too much. I think a compromise is looking like the Graco MyRide 65 for my DS and the Graco Nautilus for my DD. I'd like to spend more on Britax seats, but for a second vehicle I will spend less (but not Cosco less... Heard bad reviews there).
Thoughts?
Re: Graco Nautilus reviews please
We have one. It's a perfectly fine seat. It does tend to make DC's head slump forward if they fall asleep, although I think that that's a common complaint with most carseats. We've never tried to use it as a booster. From everything I've read, it doesn't fit well in booster mode for thinner kids because it positions the belt too high on the abdomen. We just bought a dedicated high back booster instead.
I would also look into the Evenflo Maestro and Evenflo SecureKid (300 or 400) seats. The Maestro is around $80 and has a harnessed weight limit of 50 lbs. (My niece has one of these, and it's fit her well harnessed and in booster mode.) The SecureKid is around $100-120 and has a harnessed weight limit of 65 lbs.

I have the Graco Argos (newer version of the Nautilus) that I bought about 6 months ago to replace the MyRide65 that DD was in. I loved the MyRide, we never really used it rear facing though. The condition was great, all the reviews I read pointed to this seat as a mid-range ($ wise) best buy. We bought one for each vehicle since at the time we drove DH's truck on the weekend, but I did pickup and drop-off in in my Civic during the week. We traded in the Civic for an Acadia at the end of the year and the MyRide sat up so tall in the seat that she couldn't climb up in it on her own (captain's chairs) so when I would put her in the seat I would hit her head all the time... I wanted to look for a new convertible booster anyway, so that's when we switched to the Argos. I had a coupon and got it for the same price as the Nautilus so I figured I would get the newest model and I love the seat. She really likes it- I will say the main 'button' to undo the harness is really tight, and the straps are also really tight (almost like they need to be broken in but I've been using the seat since March). I'm thinking of taking off the 5-point harness and using the lap belt with the seat (still with the back on the booster).
Another option, depending on how old/big your DD is, is the Turboback booster from Graco- now we take my car everywhere so we got the highback booster for DH's truck the few times he picks up during the week. It's normally $50, but on sale at Target through tomorrow for $30. I bought one for my mom as well since she is still strapping DD into the Cosco Scenera from two years ago. (Nothing wrong with that seat- I bought it for both sets of grandparents to replace the used infant carseats they had purchased/borrowed when DD was born. Best safety ratings in it's class)
I would be hesitant to purchase a Nautilus right now due to the buckle issues. NHTSA is actually investigating the issue right now. I have known a few people that have been unable to get their harness to unbuckle, and either have had to cut the harness or pull the chest clip down far and pull the kid out of the seat. Obviously, this is not a safe situation.
I would look at the Evenflo Maestro, Evenflo Secure Kid and the Frontier.
