I've been offering my now 7 week old baby breast milk from a bottle starting 3 weeks today. The 1st week I was giving her a different bottle every day, (so I'm not going to count this week since I was confusing her). I thought if she liked a bottle she would just take to. But I learned that I have to give the bottle and baby a chance.
Week 2 she would take the same bottle off and on.
Now we are on week 3, she drank 3oz yesterday from a new bottle but refusing the same bottle today.
My question is is it common for baby to take the bottle 1 day and refuse it the next? Any pointers or advice would be helpful.
Re: Starting 3rd week of bottles and still not successful.
Hmmm, have you read about bottle feeding a breastfed baby? I believe there is a good article on Kellymom or LLL about it. Maybe the pacing isn't right...?
Is the bottle nipple warm? That could help too.
Is there a reason YOU are feeding a bottle?
I ask because often a BF baby will not take a bottle from the mother but will take it fine from others if mom is not available. I would suggest allowing your DH or other caregiver to give a bottle while you go to the grocery store or get a pedicure or take a walk around the block.
That is unless you plan to EP and always offer a bottle in which case, just keep trying.
Have you considered EPing for a day or so? Last week, this post could have been written about my son. However, after trying and trying, DS finally took a full bottle on Friday morning. I took advantage of this and instead of offering the breast for the next feeding, I stuck with the bottle. I fed DS nothing but the bottle from Friday morning until Saturday night into Sunday morning (MOTN) feedings. Perhaps of you are more consistent with the bottle for a few days, your LO will become more used to them.
I haven't tried warming the nipple yet, but that's a great idea.
I've been offering the bottle well because DH gets easily frustrated which frustrates the baby which then upsets me. So in short I've been giving baby the bottle. She seems to take the bottle every other day but I offer it every day. My in-laws will be here for 4 or 5 days in which I will have my mother in law give the bottle.
But because the bottle has been introduced baby will eventually get it right? We first introduced it at 5 weeks.
Thank you ladies!
