Soooo... I don't want to jinx myself but I think we are rounding a corner. Reflux is under control with Zantac and also seems less severe.
His colic episodes get shorter and less often. Now...here are the questions though:
1. His reflux was silent, so he never actually spit up. Now he started spitting up a fair bit with burps. Much like Alastair did in that age. Does that mean anything, reflux wise? To clarify: not worried about it, just trying to hear other's experiences.
2. Since his colic spells are better, he sleeps like it is going out of style. On his own, on the couch. He is up maybe for an hour at a time and then wants to be put back to sleep. Is that a typical thing?
3. Now that he is better, should we now start a routine? It was as good as impossible before. Now, he often cosleeps. Any ideas for easy transition? I will still have him in a receiving crib in our room, but would love to get off the couch with him at night. Hubby and I are both sick of it.
I think there was more but I don't remember. I may ask again later.
Re: Colic and reflux moms questions
1. If he is spitting up that is the reflux and it's actually better than silent because it's less damaging and painful.
2. If whatever he is on/you are doing is minimizing the acid when he refluxs he will sleep better. If he seems lethargic when awake, dehydrated, or has weight gain issues it would be a concern but if he's otherwise healthy than he's fine.
3. I would try putting him in his crib for naps to get used to it then trying to put him down in his crib at night if naps seem OK.
As for the reflux...it is controlled, he doesn't show signs of distress any more sort, as long as he gets his Zantac.
Do you think it is a sign of getting better now? From silent reflux to nonsilent and then it may progress to being gone? Or am I making sh!t up now?
DS slept in our room for 6 months. He had a bad cough that they thought was reflux and he sounded like he was choking all the time. We started doing naps in his crib and he transitioned pretty easily.
Even though, there was a scream fest tonight but it was only an hour. For us, that is considered a good thing.
