Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Wake up time?

My daughter is 4 months today and she has started taking longer naps, 2 to 3 hours ( twice a day), so I'm thinking about waking her up in the morning at a set time (8:00am) to see if we can begin scheduled naps. Right now I allow her to wake herself, but this throws off when she take naps.

I'm freaking nuts and have been charting her sleep in Excel to look for patterns and sleep duration and to no avail I think the wake time is where I need to intervene.

Also, she generally goes to sleep at 6:30pm and then wakes up once anywhere between 3:30am-5am to eat and then back to sleep until 7:30am or as late as 8:45am.  She threw a curve at me last night and woke at 2am and then 6:45am (both times to eat).  Anyone else waking their baby at this age for the day?

Re: Wake up time?

  • Are you SAHM?  I stayed home with DD for the first three months, and started waking her up at 7AM at 2.5 months to sort of get her ready for when I returned to work at 3 months.  At three months, I started working three days a week, which means she gets up at 6:30am.  She doesn't sleep very well at daycare, so I let her sleep at much as she wants when I'm home with her.

If I was SAHM all the time, I would probably wake her up at a given time anyway, because I like having a schedule, and they are supposed to like it as well.

  • Yes, I am a SAHM and I too thrive on a schedule. I think I'm going to wake her at 7am and see how she does. Thanks!
