If my appointment is at 10, bring your a** at 10!

I just had my second doctor's appointment and I'm furious at the ridiculous wait! My appointment was at 10:30, I arrived slightly before (it's a follow-up, there is no paperwork).

10:50- receptionist says, "we're waiting on the office with the ultrasound, it will be just a little while longer."

11:10- nurse takes me to an exam room, "I'm going to have you sit in here, while the ultrasound room is prepared. It shouldn't be too much longer."

11:20- nurse comes back in, "while you're waiting, would you like to have your flu shot today?"

11:45- I stand to leave, the nurse comes in at that exact moment, "I can take you to the examination room now."

11:55- doctor enters, "Hi, I'm doctor <<whatshisface>> I'm going to see you today instead of your doctor."

12:20- actual exam and (another? WTF) ultrasound.

12:52- I finally leave the damn office, after scheduling to do additional blood work at a later date.

Ugh! I'm so pissed I could scream! I had already resolved to find a new doctor (I learned at my first visit that I would have to rotate FIVE doctors, instead of staying with my previous OBGYN), but this is the final straw. I. Never!

I'm so crafty, I make people.

  • That sucks!  I switched OBs because the last place I went to the wait was at least an hour for every appoinment and they never let me pick a reasonable appointment time even though they were available for other patients.  So far my new doc has been great.  I was the only one in the waiting room and got in within 15 minutes.  My NT scan is the first appointment of the day so hopefully I won't have to wait at all.  I hope you find a new office.

  • I'm looking for a new doctor rightnowthisminute! I want the same person to do my prenatal care and delivery, but all of these "medical groups," want to pass me around. :/

  • Yeah, there's no way I would wait that long. I work 40 minutes away from our hospital and would have left after the 11:10am b.s. they gave you. But to wait nearly 2 hours, I'm surprised you were able to keep biting your tongue.

They're not worthy of your business. On to the next! Best of luck.

  • I agree that waiting that long totally sucks but is it possible that they were late and you saw a different doctor because there was an emergency going on? I'm a RN and I know that when I call my Doc for a delivery or an emergency I need them now and sometimes I need them for awhile. If that was the case try to remember that in 6 months your doc might be crazy late to see another patient because they are at the hospital delivering your sweet baby.

if that is just the way your office is run then I agree that it's time to get a new doc.

  • I too had a three hour appoint for my second half of my first OB appointment?! I was hungry going in because they said it would only take an hour...I was sick the rest of the day b/c you don't make a pregnant woman go three plus hours wait for food, nevertheless a scheduled appointment!

Good luck with the new OB!!

This. Well, I'm not an RN but you have to remember that doctors get called out. Especially OBGYNs. My OB is a solo practioner and she was straight up about when she's in the office, she sticks to a strict schedule but if she has to go, she has to go. I know it sucks but sometimes you have to be patient.

  • I am one of the most impatient people I know, so I totally feel your pain! Just remember, that it is an OBGYN, so he/she could have had an emergency pop up. Babies don't always wait to be delivered according to the doctor's schedule!

This, for sure. I had several crazy waits my last pregnancy but it made me appreciate my doctors and midwives because they spend time with you if they're needed. At least you weren't the one who just found out you had a miscarriage, or the girl hemorraging after her delivery, or whatever else.
