Winter Jacket

I am starting to show and my jacket from last year is barely fitting. I went to look for a maternity jacket but was concerned about what size to buy because I dont know how big I will get! Has anyone done this so far, or have any advice they can give me?

Re: Winter Jacket

  • I bought one from Motherhood maternity.  After the sale and a coupon it was about $56.  I bought a size larger than I thought I really needed, just to be sure.  And, the saleslady agreed that I should get through all winter with it.  If you sign up for Motherhood's email and address list, they send coupons regularly.

  • I got this one from Target:

Super cute, comfortable, and warm! There is plenty of room for a growing belly. I bought mine one size up just incase I grow anywhere else besides my belly lol and I LOVE it! Would def recommend  :)

  • I have been wondering this exact same thing, as I live in Chicago where winters are FREEZING and my North Face coat is a size small/slim fitting. It feels tight already with the 8 pounds I've gained so far. None of the coats I've seen online or in stores (Motherhood, etc.) look nearly warm enough for the Chicago winter. I commute to work via public transportation and walk my dog, so I do a lot of standing around/walking outside in the winter.

When you ladies say the coats you've bought are "warm," just how warm are we talking?? San Francisco winter warm, or tundra warm? :)

  • What about looking at a poncho type thing?  I haven't figured out what I'm doing yet, but I figure I can always steal my husband's fleeces and wear them under an open jacket.

I bought a maternity winter coat from Old Navy.  It wasn't expensive ($45 with a coupon) and is very warm.  I'm hoping that it won't get too small as the winter goes on.  I ordered a size up and there seems to be a lot of room to grow.

This is the one I bought, but it looks like all their other stuff is on sale now.

This is the same one I got. Just ordered it yesterday it was on sale for $48. I ordered it in a Medium size since that's what everyone recommended in the reviews. I'm usually a XS or S in ON clothes.

  • I have a great Michael Kors wool swing coat that I found at Nordstrom Rack last year. It's not maternity, but I am thinking it will last me through the winter since it only has buttons on the top, and the rest swings free.

I can't find a picture since it's a couple seasons old, but it's similar in style to this:

I just bought that one last weekend! We tried it on with the pregnancy pillow they have in the store and it fit great. If you leave the zippers up, no one will ever know it's a maternity jacket. We live in CO and I grew up in Hawaii so I get pretty darn chilly here, and I'm excited to have this jacket!

In in the NE and also commute to work via subway/walking.  The Old Navy coat that I posted above did a really good job in freezing rain the other day.  The hood is fleece lined and surprisingly warm.  It won't be as good as my Thinsulate-lined coats, but I think it will be good enough for the winter.

Alright, I'm sold! I think I'll buy a good fleece too and just layer on the really frigid days. Thanks, Nola!
