Finger foods

We've talked about puffs quite a bit, but what other foods are LO's self-feeding?  I tried peas several weeks ago but she wasn't digging them, so I need to try again.  I read that they can start soft cheeses at 7-8 months (depending on your pediatrician).  Not sure what kind of cheeses they mean- obviously not brie but that's what I think when I hear soft cheese!

sweet potato/zucchini 'fries' (just baked/roasted in the oven with a bit of olive oil),

We're not doing dairy yet as DS has MSPI.

Brilliant!  I need to try these.  We were told to wait on all grains with LO b/c of the severity of his MSPI, and I have been trying to figure out what to do for a finger foods alternative.

Bread/toast i sometimes top with olive oil or hummus, sweet potato/zucchini 'fries' just baked/roasted in the oven with a bit of olive oil, unsalted rice cakes, steamed broccoli/carrot sticks, cucumber and apple slices. We're not doing dairy yet as DS has MSPI.

Are you breaking up the bread, carrots, cuke, and apple into bite size pieces or just letting LO gnaw?
  • Just curious, what's MSPI?  Thanks for the suggestions!

We do most of this. The bread and fries are bite size pieces. He can pick them up and feed himself. The rest is for gnawing and teething.
  • We also do the baked sweet potato fries in a bit of olive oil.  We tried peas, and even though LO is great with the puffs, she found the peas a little difficult.  As for cheese, we give her string cheese.

I'm glad you asked because I came on tonight to ask the same thing.  My DD hates peas too.  My DH suggested cut up banana.

  • Kelsey polished off almost half a banana today because I forgot to bring food with me when we were out (twice!).  I used a spoon to chop little pieces off and fed it to her on the spoon.  She loved it and I'm glad she got to eat something fresh, rather than something out of a jar that was plucked off of a plant at some point in the past 3 years!  I'll definitely need to follow it up with some prunes tomorrow :)
