3rd Trimester

Work/SAH (clicky poll)

For now, DH and I aren't in the financial position for day care, so the plan is for me to stay at home with the baby and finish school via online/evening classes.  Just curious what everyone else's plans were.[Poll]

  • Going back to work full-time after 12 weeks.  Staying at home just isn't for me.

    DD 12/20/99, DS 12/14/12, M/C 9/2014, M/C 1/2015

  • I'm returning to work full time at the beginning of the school year. I'll be taking off the rest of this school year once baby comes.

  • I am planning on working part-time, but I also work from home.

  • I would love to SAH but DHs career is a bit tumultuous so the idea of being totally unemployed makes us both nervous... thus I will be working either PT or PRN [as needed] to keep some sort of active employment, but only when someone can watch LO unless I need to go back.

  • I'll have to go back full time after probably six weeks. I would love to find something part time but as of now, I'll be returning to my full time job.

  • I am a SAHM for now. In a few months I will start the enrolling process with college and start that in the coming fall.

  • Full time while DH finishes the PhD. Then we'll see what happens...

  • With DD I was able to stay at home for a year on Canadian Maternity Leave.

Now that we're down in New Zealand and only on DH's income, I'm staying at home for now, but will find work hopefully when #2 is close to a year or slightly over.  I need to find work in order to afford daycare, but can't find daycare until I have work....weird circle.

  • I work from home full time and will be returning after 7 weeks. DH will be taking 2-3 weeks off so it'll be like I'm home with her for 9-10 weeks. Then she will go to daycare 4 days a week and my MIL will watch her 1 day a week.

  • Financially I have to go back.  But I'm a teacher so I will only have 4 more months until summer break, without a pay check.
  • I voted other, because while I will be working some, it will only be PRN.  So, technically I could be working part-time, or I could be working not at all, as I get to pick out what shifts if any I'd like.  It will all depend on our bills that month with how much I'm actually working.

  • I voted SS b/c you didn't have "undecided." This is our 3rd LO and I've been working FT for 10 years at the same employer, but we aren't sure what I will do after this one is born. My job is great, but it's just too much with DH's crazy and unpredictable schedule as a business owner and soon-to-be THREE small kids. I definitely want to

    1. cut down to PT,

    2. stay home, or

    3. go back FT on a limited term--i.e. through June, or something like that.

My commute is also "long" for me now that we have kids (30 min there, 40 min home), and that makes a difference. Hard to give up my salary and benefits, though.

  • I will be out for the first 12 weeks and then back to the office. I feel a little less guilty because my mother will watch DD for the first few months before she goes to daycare. I wish I could stay a little longer with baby before going back to work but I couldn't stay at home; I don't think I could handle it.

  • I put "other" because our plans are SO up in the air right now! The goal is that I won't have to go back to work, at least not for very long, but it's entirely dependent upon whether or not my DH finds work, when he finds work, what kind of work he finds, (he's just finished his schooling to teach math.) It's just all completely out of our hands.
  • I've been a SAHM for 3 years and look forward to spending a few months with this LO, and then returning to work full time next fall.

  • I'll be working full time, but I work from home. In theory it sounds like a plan, but I've a feeling it will be much trickier than expected to still make my 45 hour minimum quota every week.
Sept 2013 started TTC#2 (never got PP period so hoping for the first egg to drop)
Jan 2014 - diagnosed POF (Premature Ovarian Failure) and told pregnancy not possible without egg donor because my ovaries would never function again with my hormone levels (FSH 136, LH 98.6, AMH <.03, estradiol 0, HCG 7) - using acupuncture, chiropractic care and TCM herbs / supplements

  • Working outside the home isn't for me.  I don't plan on working again.  I think that when my kids are through school, I'll look for volunteering of some sort.  Till then, I'll raise my kids, volunteer at their schools when the time comes and take care of the home.

I'm in the same boat!  I am returning FT, but I will look really hard for a PT job.

  • I am the main breadwinner but I will drop down to parttime for as long as I can afford it. DH works from home but with 2u2 I want/need to be home more. If I could afford to not work, I would LOVE to SAH with my babies.

This. I am hoping that my business as a Thirty-One consultant continues momentum and I do not have to take on another daycare child when the boy I watch drops to part-time in January.

  • I'm staying at home for 6 months. When we move in June my goal is to get a PT job in the Philippines.
  • This is our 3rd baby and my other two girls are almost 5 & 3.  Its not financially responsible or best for our family for me to return back to work this time.  (Especially since I am only working part time now.)

After I had DD1 I returned back to work full time after 9 weeks of leave

After I had DD2 I returned back to work part time after 7 weeks of leave.

This time, I will not be returning to work.

  • I clicked other because I do home-daycare, so after this LO is born I will be looking for a new family.  So basically I stay home, but have found a way to bring in a little extra money.
