C-sections

What to wear home?

So I have my c section scheduled for the 27th of this month.  I was wondering what you ladies that have already gone thru it wore home.  I am not sure what will feel comfortable with the incision.  Also did you take your own gown to wear while in the hospital or did you wear one of their lovely gowns?  TIA

Re: What to wear home?

  • For the first day and a half I wore the hospital gown. It was just easier with the catheter still in for the first part, and even after it was removed, it was easier for me to use the bathroom that way.

After that though, I had a pair of comfy jammies that I wore the rest of the time. They were loose fitting, the pants sat high enough that they didn't mess with the incision at all, and the top was button up so I could nurse easily. It made me feel better to be in my own clothes, especially when I had visitors.

For the trip home, I kept my jammy pants on and threw on a loose maternity top and nursing bra and was all set! I had packed a pair of yoga pants, but decided it was easier to just keep the jammies on.

Originally I had planned on bringing a robe, which would have been nice, but I ended up having hot flashes like no one's business, so it turned out to be an unnecessary thing in my case! Hope this helps!

  • I wore a pair of old navy yoga pants - the ones that are soft cotton, not the spandexy ones - and a t-shirt.

As for my time in the hospital - while I brought a lovely PJ set that would have been super comfy to wear, I just stuck with the hospital gown. It helps that I didn't really have many visitors and like the PP said, it's easier with the bathroom and I also had major hotflashes too.

  • I wore the hospital gowns for a couple of days, then switched to t-shirts/nursing tanks and yoga pants when I was released. I had to stay in the hospital with DS for a week, but I wasn't a patient and didn't want to wear their gowns. My room was pretty cold, or I would have worn the gown that I brought.

The pants I wore were high enough that they didn't touch my incision, and one of them was a size bigger.

Also, you will probably have to wear the hospital gown for surgery.

  • I wore yoga pants home from the hosipital (who am I kidding, I'm still wearing yoga pants 1 year later) Smile

I did have a robe that I wore while I was in the hospital over my gown. I had a ton of visitors and the thought of putting on my own clothes was too much, but I was glad to have my robe.

  • I either wore the hospital gown or my own pajamas and he hospital robe.  I liked being able to get fresh gown/robe 1-2 times a day and not have laundry to do when I came home.  Also, they will come regularly and check your uterus and your incision so wear something where you can easily have that done.

I wore a loose pair of yoga pants home and a maternity shirt.  You want something a little more high rise so it isn't sitting on your incision.  Good luck!

  • Yoga-type pants with the waistband high enough on my belly to not be near the incision. I also wore a tank-top and a cardi-wrap when it got cold.

Honestly, I just stayed in the hospital gown the whole time I was there. I didn't have visitors and I rarely got up out of bed and the thought of trying to get dressed in those first day or two? *shudder* I changed the morning I was going to be discharged after my first shower when I felt capable of standing up again and got dressed afterward.

  • I wore their gown until I was able to shower and the cath came out- I think maybe 12 hours later.

During the hospital stay I wore nursing tanks, bras and a very loose fitting tops. I wore really big and comfy yoga pants.

To go home I wore mostly the same things as my hospital stay. I made the mistake of bringing low rise maternity pants to wear home but they killed my incision. I wasn't expecting a c-section so I thought I was just going to be dealing with a vaginal recovery.

  • Yoga pants and nursing tanks..... After gown and catheter came out....
  • Of corse, I had the gown for surgery but as soon as they took my cathater out and let me get up and shower (12 hrs after surgery). I showered and put on normal clothes. It as the best feeling to be clean and in my own stuff! I wore yoga pants and nursing tanks and had a lightweight zip-up sweater to keep nearby in case I wanted it.

  • I wore nursing gowns the four days after the C I was in the hospital. And I wore a maxi dress home with their wonderful mesh panties underneath.

PS-The mesh panties were really a life saver for me! Take as many as you can from the hospital.

  • I agree with the previous posts--loose, comfy pants are a must!  Also, you only have those mesh panties for awhile.  You'll want some comfortable underwear for the weeks to come afterwards.  I wish I knew the brand of the underwear I've been wearing...it's perfect around my incision.  So definitely stock up on some good undies!

  • I wore the hospital gown for the first couple of days, only because I forgot my pj pants.  DH went home to get a couple extra changes of clothes for himself, we were not planning on 5 days in the hospital when we packed.  So he grabbed me a few things. I did love the mesh underwear, I took home about 7 pair.

I wore the same clothes home that I wore to the hospital.  Full panel maternity pants and a maternity shirt.

  • I wore a casual jersey dress home. I didn't want to worry about hitting the incision. When in the hospital, the first 2 days I wore their gown because I bled a lot.
