This woman I know is throwing a 1st birthday party for her son and not only had the nerve to include a "Guide to Giving Great Gifts for Jacob" in the invitation, but just emailed the entire guest list a link to her Amazon wish list.
Seriously?!

But seriously, how else would people know what great gifts to give to Jacob? I mean, what if they got him A BOOK or SOCKS! Poor Jacob would be crying for his whole party. It would ruin his birthday. Because we all know that at 12 months, you have to be really selective about what kids like.
I wish that I could decline but she handed me the invite at E's party and asked if I was available that day. I said that I wouldn't dream of missing it. Little did I know. I was shocked by the card that fell out of the envelope - before the invite itself mind you - giving brands, sizes, and stating "organic preferred" for clothing!

I'd still decline. But if you must go, I would get the cheapest quality polyester pajamas in size 3T, along with a more appropriate gift, just to make a point.
Your LO may have to be "sick" that day! I know this is so Bump cliche, but I actually do feel bad for little Jacob having such a pretentious mom.
What a d-bag. She's just lazy and doesn't want to have to return the things she doesn't like. Just suck it up and accept what people give you graciously and return what you don't like.
If I were you, I'd skip the party... "You didn't know about a family member's event that day..." Family over "friends".

It always amazes me that people like this really exist. Get the kid what you want to get him since you've already agreed to go to the party. I wouldn't even look at the "Guide to gift giving." You are an adult and are perfectly capable of picking out a present for a 1 year old. Sheesh.

Ohh, I like the way you think. I think this is perfect idea!
I bet she thinks she's just being "helpful". Ewww.
