We are leaving for vacation tomorrow and I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions for ways to keep a 2.5 year old entertained during the ride? He is actually really great in the car (we travel 1.5-2 hours to my in-laws pretty frequently with no problems) but I want to make sure I am armed with a few ideas just in case. We do have an iPad that I'm planning on bringing along so he can watch a movie or two, but I don't want him glued to the thing for the entire 8 hour drive. Any suggestions?
Re: Toys for long car ride?
A travel magna doodle or aqua doodle. Not messy and they can draw. Crayons/paper/stickers, or a sticker book. Hot wheels, small animal toys, etc. are great for the car. Fun kid music, audio books, snacks, and stop every few hours if he is awake. If he falls asleep, do not stop for any reason!! We try really hard not to pull out the ipad or movies until after lunch time.
I usually try to pack a picnic lunch and figure out what town we will be near around lunchtime and then I find a playground. We stop and let the boys run around and eat lunch and run around some more and then my youngest will nap while the older watches a movie or sometime he will fall asleep too. The fresh air and sunshine is so important on a long drive...makes all the difference in behavior for us!
Don't get anxious about anything and definitely count on an 8 hr drive taking a little longer.
Mommy loves you Eevee!
