Introduction and early ultrasound experience

Hi everyone! I am jumping on in to the board, as my DH and I got our BFP on Sunday! We are very excited and this will be our first baby : ) It was our second cycle of TTC and while we were certainly planning for it, it still feels so surreal! Some background: I have had long cycles, ranging from 44-61 days over the last year or so after coming off of BCP. Based on my LMP, the doctor estimated I was 7 weeks along earlier this week, but as I know with my long cycles, I explained to her that by using OPKs I think I'm now just 14-15 DPO today (ovulated on CD 39 or 40). But, to be sure, she sent me in for an early ultrasound which I had today. The radiologist said they saw a sac, but didn't see any "response" around it. She said it could just be too early (which I already knew) but, then of course she went into the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy or potential early miscarriage. I know that she was just giving me full disclosure, but I almost wish she had just said, "Yes, you're right, it's just very early!" Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Ah well...she recommended bloodwork and a repeat U/S in a week...so a waiting game it is! I am still positive and trying to only think good thoughts...I should feel fortunate that they even saw anything!!! I hope you ladies are having a wonderful morning and I really look forward to getting to know you all! Yay for summer babies!!

  • Welcome and congrats!

As far as your dates, my cycle was really long and I didn't O till CD30.  I went to the OB two weeks ago for my confirmation appt and by LMP I should have been 6 weeks, but by O I knew I was only 4 weeks.  She did an u/s and we really didn't see anything.  I just went back for another u/s today and there was our baby right on track.  So don't worry about your dates.  It sounds like everything was normal for where you think you are.

Thanks, this is definitely reassuring! It's amazing how rationally you know there's a perfectly logical reason for things not having progressed further, but that little irrational emotional side still manages to rattle you for no good reason. I was just laughing with DH because yesterday he said he was excited for the U/S and I was warning him not to get his hopes up because chances were we'd see nothing! My, how the tables have turned ; )

Makes sense if you were only 14-15dpo that you wouldn't see a heartbeat on an ultrasound. I hope this week goes by quickly for you!! :)

You're welcome!  That first u/s was so nerve wracking for me, even though I knew my dates were right and knew that I shouldn't see anything.  It certainly does mess with your head though!

  • Congratulations. :) I'm sorry she wasn't more reassuring. Hopefully the next week flies by for you!

  • @shayca I hope the week goes by blazing fast for you. Don't worry, I notice this happens to so many people! Keep your chin up and keep us updated :) I know time couldn't go any slower for me, I'm waiting for my first prenatal appt which is in one week! Now I'm not sure if I even want an U/S on Thurs, I'll be 7 weeks according to LMP...I wonder if I should wait until i'm further along.

Yay for summer babies is right! I also really hope to get to know some of you, and go through this journey together, as I have NO idea what i'm doing! lol

  • Thanks, everyone for the sweet words of encouragement! My OB called to follow up on the u/s and said she wasn't concerned at all but that she recommended I go in for bloodwork tomorrow and then again on Monday just to make sure my HCG is increasing properly. She said she will repeat another u/s at my first appointment with her on Nov. 19. Just covering our bases! I'll keep you all updated and I'm sending you all well wishes in the meantime!
