Girls Names: Mabry vs Reece

Mabry

or

Reece

DS is named Mason.

I posted the other day about sibling names being matchy and it was brought up that one of my names sounded made up.  Eeek!!  It's not, but it got me thinking that maybe it's regional?  Just curious on thoughts for my two girl names I have narrowed down and I am also open to any suggestions.  Thanks!

Re: Girls Names: Mabry vs Reece

  • I don't know anyone named Mabry, but I think it's beautiful! I prefer Reece for a boy (but spelled Rhys).

  • The only Mabry I know of is John Mabry. I would assume you were weirdly obsessed with him. It doesn't sound like a real FN to me, and behindthename agrees.

  • I much prefer Reece for a girl over Mabry.

  • I didn't know Mabry was a name. How do you pronounce it? May-bree, or ma-bree? I don't think I like it.

  • Of the two, I prefer Mabry. I wouldn't use it myself unless it were a family surname, but it has sounds similar to some names I like (Mable, Mae, etc.).
  • I like Mabry! C: Very cute! It reminds me of a show, one of the character's names was Maeby.
  • I prefer Reece (spelled Reese for a girl).

Mabry sounds very redneck to me.  I can only hear it with a high pitched southern accent.

May-bree. And, yeah, it's surname where I am from, but not super common.  I know one little girl with the name.  It helps that she's adorable!

I REALLY like it.  But I also don't want to stick DD with an off the wall name.  DH prefers Reece but says that I can pick.  I appreciate the input thus far.

  • I prefer Reece.  Mabry is a last name in my town and I think it is too similar to Mason.

  • Mabry isn't a FN.  It falls into the LN turned FN trend.  I absolutely loathe this trend.  And, the name's just awful in its own right.

Reece is NMS, but it's alright.

  • I personally don't like Mabry but like Reece (although I might spell it differently).
  • I love the name Reese for a girl! My husband's cousin's little girl is Reese and she's a DOLL
  • I would assume Mason and Reece were brothers.

I've never heard of Mabry, but if it is a family name I think it would be ok, I love the nn Mae.

  • Sorry, but I really dislike both of them.  I think we probably have really different taste.  Here are a few I would choose instead, but I would imagine they are not your style: Mabel, Aubrey, Rebecca, Ramona or Rowan.

  • I don't care for either, but would have to pick Mabry. Even though Reece/Reese is considered unisex, I prefer it on a boy.

  • Mabry Reminds me of maybe from Arrested Development. I think it sounds SUPER country.

  • Not a fan of either. I think Mabrey is fine if it's a family name but without that I don't understand the appeal. I prefer just Mae or Maeve.

  • I'm not a fan of either. Mabry is definitely unique as a first name, so perhaps it would be best to use it in the middle name spot? What about Maeve or Moira?
  • Sorry, not a fan of either.

  • Mabry is a last name not a first name and too similar to Mason.

Reece is a boys name (preferably spelled Rhys).

    I vote neither.

  • I don't like Mabry at all - I prefer Reese for a girl spelled with the "s".  I really like Reese, it was on my list last time with DD.
  • I like both. Good luck.

  • Mason and Mabry is too matchy, imo. And I don't like Mabry at all.

Reece and Mason sound like two boys.
