Trying to find a baby sitter

My husband and I live in a completely different state than our families. I have been trying to find a baby sitter for our son. I tried to advertise in the church bulletin, registered on nannies for hire but they wont show me the profiles un-less I pay each month ( which I dont want to do). I am stumped as to what to do. Any suggestions we live near Knoxville TN

Re: Trying to find a baby sitter

  • Have you tried https://www.care.com? I haven't used them personally but I have heard good things about it.

  • Maybe try to post some flyers at the local colleges. I am sure there are some girls out there looking for a little extra money.

  • I paid for one month on sittercity.com and found the PERFECT sitter plus two backups.  I was reluctant at first b/c I'm cheap (ha ha), but it was worth it.

I started with a free trial where I posted my job opportunity.  I was really clear and specific about what I wanted, and I got a lot of great responses.  For me to contact the sitters back, I had to pay, but by the time I had read their profiles I realized it was worth it.  After I got their contact info I canceled my subscription.

I think it was $30 for the month.

    Good luck!

  • I got my nanny job through Care.com.  I didnt have to pay to list and my employer have to pay to search either.

  • I have always used care.com. I do pay a membership fee, but it is totally worth it.

  • If it were me I would pay to be able search a list of qualified care givers. However, I am neurotic and there are only a couple people outside of myself and my husband that I trust with my DD. good luck! Finding someone you like, your child likes, and most of all you trust is difficult!

  • Ditto on care.com. We paid the membership and it is totally worth it. Found a great full time nanny in Albany and just used it again to find an occasional work day sitter here in Mass. I have heard the same for sittercity.com, but we just got what we were looking for with care so I never needed to look anywhere else.
