Just wondering how much everyone else is feeding LO's?
I have Loghan on 3 tablespoons of cereal in the morning and half a jar of baby food at dinner. She cries when I stop so I am wondering if I should be giving more.
I have always been told that a baby will tell you when they have had enough so you should give them as much as they want but pay attention to their cues. If they are fussing and turning away then they are done. Also formula or breast milk should be their primary source of nutrition so make sure you are giving them milk first.
Our LO is 6 months old. Our pedi said up to 4 tablespoons of cereal for him. She also said give him the BM AFTER the cereal, not before.
Interesting, I was always told, and have read, breast milk or formula first. The reason being that formula/BM should be the childs primary source of nutrition until 12months of age; solids given up until that time are really only for 'practice' and to expose the child to new tastes/ textures and to practice chewing/swallowing.
Usually doctors say breastmilk or formula first, then food after. And as long as they are still drinking as much, you can feed them until they stop eating. Our daughter wanted to just stop the formula and only eat solids, so we had to be careful not to feed her so much that she wouldn't drink, but as long as she is drinking alright, I've always let her go til she is full.
Solid foods need to be introduced to ensure that your baby gets proper nutrition around 6 months of age. Ask your doctor about when to introduce solid foods and how to do it.
. . .
There is no mention of eating solids for practice, etc.
I give oatmeal for breakfast then nurse.
Some puffs around 2 or 3 for middle of the day snack just started this a couple days agoand puree at night before bath then nurse.

There is a great deal more information on solids on the AAP site. Solids are called complementary foods because they are meant to fill nutritional holes that breast milk has such as iron and vit D. They are not meant to replace BM (or formula) which is the optimum nutrition for a baby. The AAP recommends BM or FF for a year (WHO 2). They recommend a variety of foods be tried not only to fill these voids, but get baby used to tastes/textures and lessen risk of allergies. You can find this info on the AAP site, WHO site, or look at the nice review on up to date.

yes this is what I have done. As she is EBF I do not want to ruin her schedule by adding too much food. I think I am more concerned that she wants more. I guess when she goes for her 6 mo checkup I guess we can see how her weight is doing and go from there.
If she cries then I would give her more. We are giving DD 3 small meals a day (about a tablespoon of cereal mixed with mashed banana for breakfast, 1 ounce of veggie and an ounce of fruit for lunch, and 1 ounce of veggie and 1 ounce of fruit for dinner). Last night, DD cried after she was one with the ounce of fruit so I just let her finish the rest of the jar. She ended up eating 5 ounces total for dinner when she usually eats 2. I heard that you cannot overfeed a baby and they will let you know when they are full.

We give solids after BM, usually about 1/2 hour after. We also pretty much follow her cues...she usually eats about an ounce total per meal (3 meals/day). Some times she eats a lot more, sometimes she'll only take a couple of bites. I'm not too concerned about her intake, since most of her nutrition is coming from BM at this point.
We are baby lead parents so I BF my LO and then offer him his solid food until he turns away or completely losses interest. I would recommend trying to give her a little more and see what happens. Good luck!
