SAHM: Is DC your alarm clock?

DD usually sleeps until 6:30am, sometimes 7:30am.  99% of the time I just wake up when she starts making noises (she wakes up happy and talks to herself until I get her).  DH has to wake up at 5:30/6ish for work and sometimes I feel like I should get up with him and that I'm being lazy sleeping until she wakes me up.  Wanted to know if I'm not alone in doing that....or if I should just get my a*s out of bed :)

Re: SAHM: Is DC your alarm clock?

  • I stay in bed until DS wakes up.  I am trying to get better and set my alarm so I can work out before he wakes up, but I keep hitting the snooze button :)

  • I always sleep in until DD gets up.  My DH gets up for work around 4 am.  No way am I getting up that early if I don't have to.  :)

Besides, DH has his alone time in the morning before I get up, I get my alone time in the evening after DH has gone to bed.  It works for us.

  • I never feel quilty, when I was working I woke up around 5:30 and DH didn't wake up until I was getting ready to leave. DD doesn't sleep in too late, she's normally up a little after 6, so I don't get to sleep in too much, I do feel quilty if I take a nap throughout the day though
  • When I was at home, I did let DS wake me up.  But I always had a hard time getting a shower in during the day.  Now that I'm back at work I get up earlier, and can get myself ready before he wakes up.  I wish I had made myself do that when I was at home.

  • when my husband isn't away on a business trip (cough, cough) he'll actually get the baby when he wakes up because it's usually the same time he has to get up for work. i'll nurse the little man and then my husband plays with him while he gets ready so i get a little more shut-eye.
  • Yes he sure is!! DH gets up after us so we really don't have that problem!! There is no way I would get up with DH if he did though. He would tell me to go back to bed!! I say stay in bed!!! =)
  • DH gets up at 6 for work and DD and I usually stay in bed until 6:30 or 7.

  • I've had a built-in alarm clock for 4 years. My 4 yo is always up by 6:30, so I usually am too. If he wasn't or if he happens to be staying at Grammy's, I sleep as long as DD does. But then, she's a terrible sleeper so I'd die if I didn't take every chance I get Tongue Tied

  • I'm not SAHM, but yes our kid is our 2nd alarm clock.  He beats out the clock radio everytime.  We're patiently waiting for him to STTN on his own terms.
  • DS is still getting up 2-6 times a night so I don't feel guilty sleeping in until 7/7:30 when DS wakes for the day. ?As it is, I'm getting less than 6 hours of sleep a night!
  • Unfortunately, yes.  5:30AM almost every day for the past 2 1/2 years.  DH getting up for work and showering has always woken up DD #1 and now #2 as well.

    *yawn*

  • I hear DD occasionally when DH is getting ready for work, but I don't get up then unless she really needs me.  Usually she goes back to sleep or rests quietly for another 30 min or so.  I went through a time that I was really good about getting up when DH left, showering, making the bed, and throwing a load of laundry in before getting DD up... now I just sleep most days.  Smile  Depends on what time I went to bed the night before.  I do set my alarm clock, but DD often wakes me before it goes off anyway.
  • i couldnt stay in bed till she woke up she sleeps until 9 so i usally get up about 1/2 hour after dh leaves i have a coffee get things done watch the news just wake up

  • MH and DD wake up together around 6:30am and they go have thier time together. I catch another hour of zzz's while they do this and then MH brings her to just in time for her first nap (around 7:30a). After I get her down, I start my day and try to spend a few moments with DH before he has to leave for work.

  • DS is my alarm clock!  He will sleep until 9 some mornings, but only lately when he is going through a 7-month wakeful period (WTF??) where he is up and ready to play from 1:30-3L00 a.m.  Grrrr.

  • Yes. But he is usually up around 7, which is when I used to get up for work.  DH has weird sleep/work patterns, so sometimes he is up and gone already, and sometimes he is still sleeping at 10.
