5 month wakeful/rolling question

I haven't been on in forever because we just got our computer back. I've discovered I'm an internet addict. lol

Anyways, my kiddo never went through a 4 month wakeful but I swear she is going through it now.  I want to pull my hair out. She went from not waking at all to waking 2 times a night (I know, I should stop complaining) and it's hard to get her to sleep lately. I think she is either teething or getting a cold. She gets super congested right before bedtime. She shows all the signs of teething but I also think those signs are just normal baby behavior.

Also, is my LO the only one not rolling yet? She's not doing belly to back or back to belly. She rolls onto her side while on her back but I remember my first doing that for like 2 months before she actually rolled. I'm just getting paranoid that she can't roll belly to back yet.

Re: 5 month wakeful/rolling question

  • I think so too! We had no 4 month wakeful period. But the last week he has been waking every 20 minutes. Took him to the doctor and there is no reason for it.

Also DS has rolled twice around 3 months and then never again. He can sit up and play but still absolutely refuses to roll.

  • DD only started rolling belly-back around 4 1/2 or so months, and still can't do back-belly. She can occasionally roll onto her side (mostly by accident when she's holding on to a big toy and pulls her legs up), but isn't even close to following through past her arm. I keep trying to 'show' her how to roll, but no dice as of yet.

Don't worry - I'm sure your LO will figure it out :) They're all so different! I actually have friends whose daughter didn't roll at all until she was about 7 months, and she's a totally normal toddler now.

  • Our LO rolled belly to back one time in September, he hasn't done it since...

Just this week he started rolling back to belly.  He's doing it constantly but then gets stuck on his belly and yells until I flip him back over... I'm hoping he figures it out soon

  • I think we're just into the 4 month wakeful period (need to read back to see, but DD3 is waking now at least once to eat after her dreamfeed, whereas before she would dreamfeed and then make it through to morning).

We also have no rolling, or attempts to.  Neither of my other two rolled either though - they just went to sitting up and then learned to roll when they were learning to crawl.  We never had any delays (sat, crawled and walked exactly when the 'books' say they should), so I haven't been stressing about it at all (and at least I don't have to worry about her sleeping on her stomach yet ;o).

  • Wow, I'm so glad you posted this!  My DD isn't rolling either! She has rolled, a couple of times, but now just isn't interested.  I tried useing toys to coax her to go one way or another when she is on her tummy, but instead of rolling toward it she will "scoot 180 degrees to be facing it.  But she is sitting unassisted a lot of the time, still a little wobbly here and there, but she seems to have the hang of it for the most part.

Concerning the wakeful period, I feel like DD did have a bit of the "wakeful" situation around 4 1/2 months, and she is just now starting to sleep a little more normal.  She did sleep through the night once this week (the first time ever!) and then she went back to waking up a few times a night, but since the one STTN episode she hasn't wanted to eat when she wakes up, just fusses for her nuk and then goes right back down.

Good luck with the wakeful period, hope it goes quickly!

  • we are in the same boat!! At 3 months she rolled to her tummy a few times in her sleep so we stopped swaddling her. I thought that was it and that she could roll and then she never did it again!! she can roll side to side but hasnt flipped on her own since those two nights. Now at 5 months she still isnt rolling. is juststarting to sit a little, still squishy though. And she can barely put weight on her legs, better than before though. About 2 weeks ago she started to wake at night, but you just put the biny in and she falls right to sleep. But she was sleeping 6:30-6:30 for months so getting bak up again repeatedly has been a pain, but im not complaining she is a great sleeper so we are thankful for that!
