Baby Names

Its a boy! I would appreciate your opinions again

I previously posted about a girl name my husband and I agreed on...but now that we found out we are having a boy, we have to figure out a boy name.

For a long time, I really loved the name Zephaniah...I still do, but got some negative feedback when I mentioned it before I was pregnant as a name I would love for a boy...so I had given up on it.  My husband likes it too though and so we have revisited it and thought about using it for a middle name instead.  Our last name is Smith....so boring...so I don't want a boring first/middle name.  For first names, I'm thinking of Owen (a family name from husband's maternal side that i really like).

so what do you think of the name Owen Zephaniah? Does it flow well? We like that the initials are OZ.

Other thoughts for first or middle name exchanges are Dain (family name), Jeremiah (if I can't have Zephaniah-I really like those old testiment iah names-Is Zephaniah really that bad though? I thought Zeph or Zep could be a cool nickname if it was a first name). Recently Nevil/Neville has appealed to me as well due to the author Nevil Schute (I kinda like Neville Longbottom's character in the Harry Potter series too...in the last one at least).

Anyway...I would appreciate your opinions about the names we are considering...I'm open to other name ideas...but I've looked at tons of other boy names lists and not much else has really caught my eye.  Hopefully we can name this baby before he is born.

 Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

  • Zephaniah is admittedly not my favorite. However, I think that in the middle name spot, it'll be fine.

Agreed.  And, I think it flows nicely with Owen.

  • I think Zephaniah is too much for a first name but I really like it for a mn with Owen. I am not familiar with biblical names and actually had to read the name a few times before I got the pronunciation.
  • I like Owen Zephaniah!

  • It's pretty clunky IMO but as a middle name Zephaniah is ok.  I don't think it flows at all though.

  • I'm a big fan of unusual names. Especially given the number of other Owen Smiths there will be out there, I think Zephaniah works great!

  • I like Owen Zephaniah and the possible nn Oz. The more I think about it, I really like Oz.

  • I really like Owen Zephaniah. My second choice would be Owen Jeremiah. I don't care for the others.

    Yes, all of this.

  • I like Owen or Jeremiah. Not a fan of Zephaniah, but it's okay in the MN spot.
  • Zephaniah is definitely not my style. However, I agree with a previous poster that itt's better used a middle name and not a first name.

Of the other choices you listed, my preference would be Jeremiah. If you were to use Nevil/Neville, I'd go with the spelling Neville.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
