I guess I'm a bit late to the party, but still wanted to share my quick birth story, and say hey! Chloe was born @ 2:39 am on Oct. 20th and she weighed 6 lbs 2 oz and was 19 in long.
Well, that day I was super worried something was wrong (I had posted here about it actually). We decided to go for Mexican that night to get things moving, hopefully. We went to dinner around 7:30 on Friday and I was having pretty bad contractions off and on throughout dinner. I was able to eat, but would need to stop, breathe, and squeeze DH's hand when they hit.
We came home and I began timing contractions. After about an hour of 4-1-1 contractions I called my doula and she thought I was probably in active labour. She wanted me to call her back an hour later, so I did, around 11 pm. The contractions were coming really hard and fast so we told her we'd just meet her at the hospital.
Got to L&D and they were on diversion, so of course DH and I are like, you've got to be f'ing kidding me. As long as I was in active labour they wouldn't force me to leave. So thankfully they checked me and I was at 4-5 cm so we stayed. Went to a room and the contractions kept coming like 1-2 min apart it seemed. I wanted to go natural but was wanting the drugs. Unfortunately the nurses were useless and couldn't get an IV in for about an hour (when I was pushing).
A few hours in they wanted to check how dilated I was and wanted to break my water, so I laid down on the bed (I was standing during contractions, ugh) and she checked me and I was 6-7 cm, then suddenly my water broke. The doctor came in and they were yelling at me to start pushing. This made no sense to me b/c you're not supposed to push until 10 cm (I later learned that when my water broke I jumped to 10 cm).
I began hyperventilating so they gave me oxygen. Everyone was yelling at me to push and I felt like something wasn't quite right. I pushed for about 5 mins and she came out. What happened was she presented face first and came out with the cord wrapped around her neck 5 times. Because of her presentation I had an emergency episiotomy (ie: felt everything). She was totally perfect thankfully. I was so scared when they told me what happened.
All in all it was a pretty traumatic birth, but I'm thankful her and I are both healthy and my labour was fast! I'm so happy she's here, but am struggling with my emotions a lot, and I don't know if it's just hormones or also due to losing my twins last year.
