My parents still have the pack N Play they bought in 1992 when dd was a baby. I haven't opened it in over a decade so I have no idea what condition it is in now. I have no idea what the lifespan of the materials is. It does not have the "accessories" that the new ones do BTW -- no ability to use as a bassinet, no changer, etc so it would strictly be a playpen/temp crib when visiting my dad's house after ds2 is older. Would you use it as a playpen/temp crib for an older infant assuming it is in good condition?

Re: speaking of packnplays
This. Check for recalls, and depending on where it was stored, check for bugs, evidence of other vermin, etc.
FYI, Amazon has some fantastic deals on Pack N Plays, especially if you are willing to go with last year's fabric pattern.
"Eh, I'd be concerned about it being musty or moldy from bring packed away for so long. "
Yeah, I'm kinda concerned about that too since it's been in the basement for the most part and they did have problems with the basement leaking when it rained for a while. I'm also wondering if the humidity has caused any rust on the metal parts. But I won't know until I go to my dad's house unless he brings it to my house when he comes North for Christmas (he's going to my brother's for Thanksgiving).
Starting to think buying a new one and trashing the old one regardless of condition may not be a bad idea.
