Taking Baby Out in the Cold

DS is almost 3 months old. My husband coaches high school football and I took DS to a couple games when it was warmer, then I let his grandmother keep him while I went to a few. My husband's team is in the playoffs tonight and grandma is unavailable. The low is supposed to be about 48 degrees. I feel like this is a little too cold for him, what do you guys think? He does have a fuzzy snowsuit that I could bundle him in, but is it bad for them to breathe in cold air for a long period of time? The other times I've taken him, he has seemed to enjoy the sounds and the lights, and he fell asleep just fine in his sling.

  • I would probably take him.

  • I would probably take him.  48 isn't too cold.  Just bundle him up and he will be warm next to you in the sling!  He'll let you know if he's too cold.

  • LOL.  It's been highs of 45 this week and DS hasn't even had a hat on.  We think that's relatively warm.  ;-)  I'm sure he'll be fine in the snowsuit and a hat.

Naw, he'll be fine. It is a common belief in the Nordic countries that babies need to take their naps outside in order to build good, strong lungs and a hearty constitution...and it gets damn cold there. Millions of Scandanavians have survived, I'm sure your LO will be fine for a football game. I might wear him in a carrier with a shawl over top to help share body heat.

  • I don't see an issue with it. Just make sure you aren't bundling him up when you get there and not in the car seat, and he should be fine.
