Speaking of a post below, I said we got our candy xrayed... When we were kids there was scares of razors and crap being in candy so the police dept did a 'bring candy down to station to get xrayed' thing.
Am I the only one who's heard of this?
I remember that shizz. We didn't get our candy x-rayed though. We went the ghetto way - our parents broke our candy into 3 or so pieces to check for razor blades & needles. It was messy, but effective.
I remember seeing that on an old Simpsons Tree House of Horror episode when I was a kid.nbsp;Fact: Most of the children harmed by tainted candy, had their candy tainted and stuff by their parents.nbsp;
I'd believe it was the parents or "loved one" tainting the candy. I don't ever remember being 'scared' it was almost like a "fun" thing to do
We had a string of problems when I was growing up. It made me kind of paranoid about candy for a long time. It's still on my mind every Halloween. It sucks!
I actually volunteered one year in HS to help with the candy Xray at our courthouse/municipal building, just running it through the metal detector conveyor belt thingy. We got a decent handful of people.And that was only in... eh, '05 maybe? So some places might still do it, not sure if my hometown still does.

True story.
There is not one case where a child's Halloween candy was tampered with by anyone other than the child's own family. The only exception to that is in cases where the child who the tainted candy was intended for shared their candy with a friend.
The moral of the story is don't share candy. You never know who's parents are trying to bump off their kid.
Did any of you actually find something in the candy? Or know someone who did? Every time I heard about this it was one of those "a friend of my neighbor's cousin" stories and so I thought it was just an urban legend. I didn't think any needles or anything were actually found. Sad, especially if it was a parent or 'loved one' who did it.
I read a study on it once.
One girl was killed when her father replaced her pixie stick dust with arsenic. She shared with a few friends who were also killed or at least got very sick. No x-ray machine would pick that up.
As the OP said, razors end up put into things by parents, not neighbors. The preponderance of the evidence is in favor of not bothering to x-ray candy because it just doesn't happen.
Oh my god, what a sad world where Trick or Treating ends with a trip to the court house to get the candy checked for razor blades. I have never heard of this in my life.

I love that episode.
"Wait a minute, Xena can't fly!"
"I told you I'm not Xena, I'm Lucy Lawless."
