PS If you just called a chiropractor "doctor-like" as a tongue-in-cheek slam on chiropractors, I will in fact hump your leg. If not, just ignore that comment.

Haha all of this. That was awesome!

While nearly early state (I think W.Va and Mississippi were the only exceptions) allow religious exemptions for vaccination requirements in schools, only 19 allow philosophical ones.
Man, being a FTM... all the crap I never even thought to worry about...
I HATE that all you have to do in CA is sign a form saying "I didn't want to vaccinate my kid" and then they can enter the public school system. This is a huge reason why we had a huge pertussis outbreak in 2010. My poor cousin who medically couldn't receive the vaccine got pertussins right before my DD was born. Luckily he was 10 and not a baby so he was fine.

I'm going to be a FTM. I'm definitely pro-vax, researching a Sears schedule when I get the book to see if that makes sense or not. For me there are only 2 options: 1) regular schedule, 2) delayed schedule. Not vaccinating for non-medical reasons is way out the window.
Anyways.... this is new to me: Do parents of non-vaccinated kids really not need to tell anyone that their kids aren't vaccinated? Not saying a scarlet letter is required, but really, do we as pro-vax parents have to wonder around every corner? Is it common for play date parents to ask about these things? This boggles my mind. I thought there would be some responsibility on the non-vax parent's part to disclose that information, especially around newborns, etc.
Or do we as vax-parents have this responsibility placed on us, and if so what is an appropriate way to handle this?
If my child ends up being not able to be vaccinated for some medical reason (not even sure what those reasons would be) I feel like I would be so open with everyone about that for both my kid's safety and theirs. And yes if there was a livestrong bracelet or something that the doctor asked me to have my kid wear to let other people know he is not vaccinated, I would for sure have him wear that.

Ethically, yes, I think non-vax parents should disclose, especially when there's a newborn involved. Unfortunately, most of the responsibility comes on individual parents, because most non-vax parents don't think there's anything wrong with it. I came right out and asked anyone with kids that were going to be around my infant. I only know that my nephew is un-vaccinated because my brother's GF continually posts BS Jenny McCarthy and other YouTube videos on FB. I asked and she confirmed, so we won't be seeing them until new baby can get vaccinated, especially for pertussis.

If you are implying that the huge pertussis outbreak is due to people to who did not vaccinate...here is a link where the CDC specifically says that it is not due to the unvaccinated but due to the fact that the vaccine does not work as well as they thought it did.
"ANNE SCHUCHAT: Yes, thank you for that question. We think there are many things going on. Pertussis is a cyclical disease and the vaccines are not perfect. So even with increasing vaccination coverage, we expect to still have cycles. We think there are some unusual epidemiologic features that have caused us to launch a more detailed investigation in Washington State. Waning of immunity or a weakening of the time or waning of protection over time may be part of the story that we're seeing. On the other hand, we know that people who are not vaccinated have about an eight times higher risk of disease than people who are vaccinated. We know there are places around the country where there are large numbers of people who aren't vaccinated. However, we don't think those exemptors are driving this current wave. We think it is a bad thing that people aren't getting vaccinated or exempting, but we cannot blame this wave on that phenomenon. Next question. "
?Vaccinated people who get whooping cough have milder symptoms [and]
shorter illnesses and are less likely to spread the disease to others,?
said Mary Selecky, secretary of health for the Washington State Dept. of
Health. ?Vaccination is still the best protection.? (source)
And:
"Nevertheless, vaccination continues to be the single most effective
strategy to reduce morbidity and mortality caused by pertussis.
Vaccination of pregnant women and contacts of infants is recommended to
protect infants too young to be vaccinated. In light of the increased
incidence of pertussis in Washington and elsewhere, efforts should focus
on full implementation of DTaP and Tdap recommendations to prevent
infection and protect infants." (CDC source)

P.S. I am not anti vax(I will be doing a delayed schedule, with no more than 2 at a time) but I still think that people should be well informed.
