Two Under 2

yes, another stroller/logistics question!

So we're TTCing now, hoping for an Aug 2013 baby when DD will be about 18 months old. I can't decide which will be better, so I was hoping you ladies could help me out.

Option 1: Britax b-ready stroller. Pros: flexible seating, takes infant seat, kids together. Cons: bit of a pain to collapse/set up every time, bulky/heavy

Option 2: DD1 in umbrella stroller, baby in Beco carrier. Pros: less stuff to set up, lighter weight. Cons: have to take baby out of seat every time, kids not together.

Im pretty set on the Britax and not the BJ CS, and I havent bought either stroller yet, but we have the Beco carrier already. Space wont be a huge issue, as we have a mid-size SUV.

Opinions? Experiences? Anything I haven't thought of? Thx!

I use both honestly. I might say use the stroller to get to the park and then move the baby into an ergo so I could get around. While I had a BJCS I wouldn't get it again -- I'd get a side by side if I had to do it again.
    oh? and why is that?

Which of the 2 options would you use to, say, go to the mall?

  • I did option 2 for the first year, though I did use a snap n go when baby was asleep in carseat and my toddler would walk or get carried in ergo.
  • I just got a b-ready about a month ago - I love it!!  Haven't used it as a double yet (May)  but I think it's going to work great.  It's super modular so you could use it as a single while having baby in a carrier or change it in a snap to a double (if you've got the extra seat in your trunk)  At least that's what I'm planning.
  • I am really happy with the B-ready. Because the weight is stacked over the wheel base, it isn't hard to turn with 2 like the select.

That said, my priority was a good walking stoller and for that you need a side-by-side. I only use the B-ready for indoors/errands. If that's your plan, it would be a good choice.

I don't really like baby wearing that much, but we do sometimes with our single, which we didn't sell.

At the mall I'd use a double stroller.

The city select has small seats. My 3 year old is big for her age and certainly would have a hard time in the seat at this point (~37 pounds/`38 inches). However more importantly a tandem stroller is really hard to push compared to a side by side. Once the baby hit 20 pounds and the kids were 55+ combined it became to hard to push our BJCS. We've given our BJCS away though it was fine for that first year. We don't use a stroller for my toddler at all now. I may buy a really good side by side for next year since daycare will be over a mile walk and I don't think my toddler can do that.

I considered all of our options, including the two you listed. But like the pp, I think a side by side is the best option. It's what I use while at the mall. I have a Baby Jogger City Mini. I actually have a BJCM single and double. When DD was very young I would sometimes use the single with DS and wear DD. I'm guessing you probably already have a single and could do this sometimes. Like you, space is not an issue for us, because we have a mini van. We keep both our single and our double in the van at all times so that we have whatever we need/want where ever we are.

  • My two are 16mos apart and I had the bready and sold it and got the b agile double. The b ready was just too darn heavy for me, even before the second seat was added so id have to take the seats off before even attemping to lift into my suv. Also, it was a giant pain to put my toddler into the second seat, and he had to be down there because i wanted the baby up on top and easy for me to see its impossible to put any infant carrier other than britax facing you on the bottom, i have a chicco. In theory the b ready seem really cool but it just wasnt functional for me and annoyed me more than anything. I just didnt think the purchase through. I love the b agile double though! Much lighter and easy to use.

  • thanks for all the advice! I just don't see myself with a side-by-side stroller... DD faces me in our stroller now, and I hate the fact that both kids would have to be facing away from me. At least in the B ready the lower kid is close to me so I can just look down, even if they're facing away.

Also, I think you can attach another brand of car seat in the lower position, but you need to put another adapter onto the bars for the lower seat. I might be mistaken, but Im pretty sure I read that soemwhere recently.

    Keep it coming! :)
