Hi all...just wondering at what age you took away the bottles...still can't seem to get my guys on to a sippy cup! I've tried all different kinds but no luck! ANy suggestions?
I know a lot of moms just have to go cold turkey. Have you tried the Playtex straw cups? That is all my kids will use. We are only doing bottles first thing in the morning and one before bed but about to drop the morning one soon. I kind of don't want them to quit bottles!

We used the take and toss sippy. We weaned down bottles as we went. The bedtime one was the last to go at 13 mo old. I was sort of sad for them to stop bottles also because our twins were probably going to be our only babies (and they are). We took pics of our last bottles.
I took away DS's bottle cold turkey 2 days before his 1st birthday when we ran out of formula and I didn't feel the need to buy anymore (we started slowly moving over to milk about a week before that). At the time, he still really wanted his morning bottle which I usually gave him during his diaper change. I just gave him a sippy cup full of milk which he chugged laying down. I think he just liked to suck and honestly didn't even miss his bottle. However, he never got the hang of using a sippy cup (even to this day) because he didn't understand the concept of tipping it up while he was sitting or standing.
Fortunately, we had introduced him to cups with straws at 6 months (for drinking water) and he picked it up really well around 7 months. So when we cut his bottle out, I just gave him milk in his straw cups during the day with the exception of his one laying down sippy in the morning.
My twins loved their bottle. They were not ready to give them up at 1 year old. I've gone by their cues. Its been a slow transition.
At 18 months now we are down to just a bottle at night. This week, one child is showing signs of giving that up, but other one still wants it Again, I follow their cues and its been happening naturally and gradually. I could never force them / go cold turkey. I just don't see the need.
They started drinking from sippy cups and cups with straws around 9 months during meals, but still wanted bottles to go to sleep.
We started with transitions at breakfast first which for us was easy as we went right from waking up, changing diaper, to highchair to eat and drink.
Then we worked on the afternoon nap bottle when they were on 2 naps (up until 15 months). Then down to 1 nap and we worked on replacing that bottle with a sippy.
My kids were also born premature and I didn't rush them based on actual birthdate, but their development fell more inline with their adjusted age.
TTC #1 for over 5 years - too many to count IF treatments (tried everything and anything), repeat miscarriages.
Finally, Sticky Success!! B/G Twins arrived 2011.
