Table foods CP

Re: Table foods CP

  • I picked SS, because I occasionally let LO eat off my plate. For example, one time I was eating crescants and he really enjoyed eating them with me... I've shared muffins, beef, apples (he likes to lick them) other fruits, etc.

I've tried giving him toast, eggs, cottage cheese. He will eat a bit of it, but mostly just play in it. Or he will put it in his hands and as he brings it up to his mouth, it might get stuck on his chin or hide in his palms. He knows what to do with it though.

  • Nat eats whatever we eat. Tonight it was raviolis and squash. We've given her crackers, toast, soups, etc. Anything that doesn't have too much dairy and some nutritional value.

  • DS eats everything we do, from chicken to tiny pieces of hamburger streaks, fries to veggies, he tries it all!

  • This kid eats anything! We give him toast, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, beans, eggs, cheese, yogurt, chicken, beef, any fruit or vegetable. He doesn't usually eat dinner with us because H isn't home until later, but if we do eat anything in front of him he will not stop whining until he gets some as well.
  • I try to give AJ some of what we're eating every night as long as its healthy. He's had all kinds of stuff: eggs, grits, green beans, baked potato, soups, ground turkey, pasta. Some he loves, some not so much.

  • We normally don't eat dinner until they're in bed. By the time we're all home from work/daycare it's time for solids, then we play a little, do baths, play or read, them bottles, then bed. I get home with them by 5 and they're normally down by 6:30-7 and I don't want to give up any of that little time to cook or eat. But on the weekends they eat a little of whatever we're eating. Last night I even broke up a meatball and let them share that. They've had bread, various fruits and veggies, cheese, really anything except for fried food, candy, juice, stuff like that I don't want to give them yet.

  • I'm in the minority here.  DD has only had purees.  She doesn't even get puffs or yogurt melts yet.  I am waiting until 9 months to introduce them and very soft table food as well.  I'll introduce other table food around 10-11 months.  I'm sooooo paranoid of choking!

  • Like others have said, she eats what we're eating, within reason. Last night was vegetarian lasagna and bread.
    Pass the sheet cake.

  • Emily eats everything we eat, I make her a plate and cut it into small bites if I need to. She usually eats whatever I make for dinner and some baby food, plus a bottle about an hour later

I can not even list everything she has eatten, speghetti, beef, steak, chicken, enchiladas, tacos, soups, pasta, salad, ribs, burgers, hotdogs, mashed potatos,  eggs, bread, every veggie and fruit I can find, just about everything and anything she will have some too. Plus some sweats like cool whip, jello, pudding, cake.

Her favorites are anything she can hold, a carrot, apple slice, ect.

  • I voted yes, but we've really just started giving DS our food.  He's had potatoes, rice, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, toast, etc.  Now that he really has the chewing motion down, I'm trying to incorporate our food into his diet.  He's even starting to deny the purees b/c he knows we'll give him some of what we are eating.

My family does "Sunday Dinner" every week, and he got to eat a lot off of my plate this weekend.  We had pot roast...he didn't get any of that because I didn't know how well he'd be able to break it up.  But he had mashed potatoes, carrots, a little bread and a mix of sweet potatoes, baked apples, and baked cranberries...he loved it all!

  • I have only done it a couple of times lately. Last night I gave her mixed veggies we were having (cut up into even smaller pieces because I'm terrified of her choking). I didn't season them at all. She wasn't exceptionally good at feeding them to herself but she had fun and I helped her out. It kept her entertained and it was good practice so I'll be doing it more often.

eta- she's never had puffs or melts either

  • She loves table food! I pretty much let her try anything (as long as it is ok, no sweets/non choking). She loves pancakes, pizza, diced fruits, cooked/steamed veggies, cereals (I try to keep these to the multi-grain ones), noodles, any kinds of bread (she loves bread!), and I'm sure I am not thinking of lots of other things.

  • Hayley doesn't even eat 3 meals a day yet! Plus I can't give her anything with egg in it yet til she gets her allergy test and we eat a lot of noodles. Sometimes I give her some of my veggiies at dinner but she just throws them on the floor. She does have puffs - but we haven't even done yogurt yet.

  • DD freaks out if we don't give her some of what we're eating, so... she eats what we eat. DH gave her some McDonald's the other day... I wasn't too happy, but hey - maybe its a sign that WE shouldn't eat it either!

  • Like PPs, Lucia eats what we eat.  She's at the point now where she still likes to be spoon fed because she gets more into her, so we try and feed her the main part of whatever we are eating with a spoon, but then give her some as finger food.

Examples - we had spaghetti and meatballs - I cut the spaghetti up small and fed her that with a spoon, and then cut up a meatball and she fed herself that.

Last night I made a thai coconut red curry dish with chicken, snap peas and red peppers.  We fed her the rice and sauce with a spoon (along with a pureed veggie, because she would eat a ton of rice with sauce and that's not the healthiest thing), and gave her chunks of chicken and strips of the veggies from our dinner.

The other night I made quiche, so we pulled a different meal out of the freezer for her (pumpkin soup), but then broke the quiche into bite sized pieces and she fed herself that.

She no longer gags on things, but we started finger foods when she was pretty about 6 months, so she did the gagging then.  Whenever you start it's going to take them some getting used to.  When she was little we would  give her long strips, so she could put them into and take them out of her mouth.  It's not until the last month that she got good at picking up small chunks.  Now she's great at it it.  I can't give her too many strips anymore because she'll often shove the whole strip into her mouth.

  • We've done table foods from the get-go.  L literally eats everything.  I can't think of a fruit or veggie she hasn't tried; she's had beef, chicken, and fish; and she's sampled all sorts of ethnic foods, spices, and sauces (Thai, Indian, Mexican, etc).

I would say her absolute favorite foods are roasted sweet potatoes, grilled squash, pesto, BBQ brisket, red pepper hummus, avocado, and scrambled egg.

Like MollySm, we started with big ol' strips and chunks of food at 6 months that she basically gnawed and sucked.  But for about the past month or so, we've had to cut everything up into small pieces, 'lest she shove a huge chunk in her mouth and spit it all out when she can't chew and swallow it all at once.  Our girl may not be pulling up or cruising, but she has a mean pincher grasp!

    11 months old! #andintoeverything
  • I've given him a bite of everything I've ever had on my plate...chicken, hamburger, hot dog, spaghetti, chili, chicken chili, eggs (not a fan), cottage cheese (not a fan), all veggies, etc.  As far as the meat is concerned, I just make sure it's a small piece.  He "chews" everything that I put in his mouth.

This. I have found that having a baby who's sharing my food means that I'm that much more aware of what I'm eating in front of her. I do eat better when she's around... because I now eat all the sh!t food when she's not around. Cuz, you know, it's healthy for her to know that her mom is a binge eater? Ha.

DD eats pretty much everything we do. I try not to give her egregiously unhealthy things - so I ate the breading and cheese, and she ate the chicken of the chicken parm that we shared. #whyican'tlosethebabyweight

  • I keep trying but he still gags a lot.  He's getting there, though.
