Checking your own cervix

Re: Checking your own cervix

If your husband is telling you he's checking your cervix with his penis, that's called rape.

It's not legitimate rape if she's already pregnant and her cervix is still closed.

  • 1. Dilation means nothing until you go into actual labor.

    2. If you legitimately want to know how, you should probably ask your doctor or midwife. I would say about 50% of the people here already think you are BSC and aren't going to take anything you post seriously in the first place.

    3. Since you're already obviously too out there to know how to use Google, here..

     https://voices.yahoo.com/checking-cervix-dialation-guide-checking-7434352.html?cat=52

Please consider using it next time. We're not doctors. It took .5 seconds to look this up.

    4. I'm seriously questioning the legitimacy of all of your posts. Weren't you just hospitalized for bleeding?

    Honestly, checking your cervix while you're TTC is not the same as checking your cervix fornbsp;dilation while you're pregnant.I can't believe that distinction even has to be stated.nbsp;
What exactly would make it so much different?

Wow Ms. Expert... I am surprised you don't know.

How about because the finger doesn't go into the F-ing cervix when you are TTC because it is closed!

abfromva... I am laughing sooo hard at your siggy gif... LOL!!!

  • Knock yourself out. It's your cervix, but others prefer to have trained medical professionals do that.

Also, GTFO with that "don't you want to know what is going on with your body" BS. How open your cervix means nothing until you are in active labor. Don't try to shame people into potentially hurting themselves, troll.

This! I have no problem "knowing my body" as you say it... I am not a trained professional, OP. So, me checking it out means nothing but aggrevating my cervix.

    Good luck with that!

  • What a silly idea. There is a huge difference between a medical professional in a sterile environment wearing a glove with years of knowledge checking you vs you blindly shoving your hand up there after eating Doritos and watching Maury Povich.

There is a reason why this ISN'T in the baby books...

  • imageFairyDuster003:

A penis will never be as clean as my freshly washed hand.

Um, wut? You sure about that? There's a reason docs use rubber gloves. It's actually super difficult to remove bacteria, etc from around nail beds etc. And a penis doesn't go around opening doors in public and pushing elevator buttons. Well, most don't anyway.

Unless you want to scrub in or wear rubber gloves while doing your own pelvic exam, you're unnecessarily introducing potential infection.

Which brings me to the question you won't answer, which is... whyyyy? Cervix checks are not pleasant experiences, my friend.

But... you do know that your boyfriend's penis doesn't go in your cervix, right?

This is what I can't get past. She's here, saying a washed hand is cleaner than a penis, and why wouldn't we put our clean hand in where a dirty penis goes, when in reality, A PENIS DOESN'T GO THERE.

     Penis.

Also, FD, just stop. You come on here, ask a question, and then tell us we're wrong for what we think. UM. Yeah, that isn't how you do it. Also, you don't seem to understand the concept of what relevant is, because you tend to go off on to crazy tangents with every post you make.

  • I'm going to pretend that there's a really good reason for you to ask this (for example, you're planning on being stranded in a forest completely alone when you go into labor) and answer the question.

Yes, some women can check their own cervix for dilation. However, you should be prepared that you might not be one of those women. I could barely reach my vagina toward the end of my first pregnancy, getting my hand in there was completely out of the question. Is it possible, most things are; is it a certainty, no.

  • I am just reading these now and let me tell you... I needed that entertainment late in the work day. I have zero interest in trying to stick anything up there that isn't necessary, even if it was safe and easy to do (poor DH has been rationed lately too - since she keeps bringing up the penis thing). Honestly OP, what will you do with information if you could determine how your cervix is doing? =/

Annnnnnd again, anyone like to post anything relevant? No? Should have known.

I didn't post this to start a debate, I have looked it up and read about it but I personally don't feel the need to do it. I maybe would have if I didn't have any bleeding or cramping but more so I was curious if anyone has tried. Which some had.

I just don't understand your logic. The doctor measures with fingers. Who cares how accurate the measurement the important part is the progression.

A penis will never be as clean as my freshly washed hand.

I am fully capable of feeling if I'm touching too roughly up there... So it's more likely that the doc would rupture my membranes or damage/irritate my cervix than me!

Why are you scared of feeling your own body? Why are you trashing those who choose to be informed? Why not provide legitimate info if you are so smart and know that it's harmful?

For the love of all things holy learn the definition of relevant. Nothing anyone said was "off topic" therefore it was completely relevant to your post.

I did not see anyone say they tried checking themselves to see if they were dilated, what I saw was people say they checked their cervix while TTC. Two different scenarios, McFly.

I actually have tried to check my cervical position recently and posted as such. I also did CP while TTC. I was curious to see if my cervix was still posterior and how far posterior it was. It was so far back I couldn't even reach it eventhough I had no issues while TTC. I have no intentions of sticking my finger inside my cervix, but was just curious as to where it was. I do have a nail brush and scrubbed up well beforehand. I don't think I will do it again, but don't see anything wrong with doing it. I think people are way overreacting.

Right! I don't understand what they would do with the information, even if it was possible and accurate. I see that my belly has grown a lot in the past 6 months... guess I'm going to have a baby! You already know towards the end, your cervix will soften and you will eventually have a baby. What is the point of "checking it".

  • You are entitled to your opinion.

  • I work in a hospital and am going to school to be a midwife...that being said, unless you have training in checking others' cervix, don't do it, for the many reasons already stated. Lots of L&D nurses have admitted to trying, HOWEVER it is next to impossible. So good luck with that.

    haha.

I am not getting internal checks because as pp said it is kind of pointless. However, I was just too curious so I tried it in the shower. It was easy and scary, what I learned it that it is very soft and low and baby is really low, now I am half expecting for him to just fall out LOL.

If you do, my advice is don't let DH feel it. Mine is now all freaked out and I do not think I am getting any because he is afraid to "dimple his head" bwah haha

How would you know if it's low if you aren't feeling your ischial spines?

I never said I know what I am doing :) but I am pretty sure that ball directly pressing on cervical opening is baby's head. I told my MW I tried, she did not seem to have a problem with it and asked me how open I was. I did not try checking the opening, just position, so she offered to do internal exam if I wanted, I declined because really there is no point other than driving myself crazy later. MW also said that my definition of low might be far from hers. So, no harm and no benefit, I just have an idea of how different it is from when we were TTC

  • If you had done any kind of research you would realize that cervical checks are not really a good indicator of when you will go into labor. Thus, it is probably unnecessary for you to be checking yourself at home.
