Health Insurance

We just got our health insurance information for our upcoming enrollment period.  It has gone up, A LOT, again.

I will be paying $436 a month for a plan that has a $2000 deductible and then I will have to pay 10-20% after we meet the deductible.  This makes me want to cry.

How much do you pay for insurance and what kind of coverage do you have?

Re: Health Insurance

  • The plan I am on at work is free and I have a $2500 deductible, and 0% afterwards. However, I will be switching to MH's insurance this next calendar year to be on a family plan and he will pay about $100/ month and our deuctible is $7200 with 0% afterwards -- this is an HSA.

  • I just enrolled in mine last night. For the best plan I can get it's about $200 a month and that includes dental and eye added on and I also added $15,000 of life insurance on for C. My deductible is $500 per person they pay 80% of costs with my maximum out of pocket cost at $3,000 per person. Preventive care is 100% covered.

ETA- I just  have C and I on my insurance. Dh has his own that his company pays for 100% and J is on his dad's military insurance.

  • H pays $250 a month for the three of us, with no deductible,  $20 office visits, $15 prescriptions, free preventative care.  We don't pay a percentage of anything that is covered, beyond the copay.  Tilly's life so far has cost us $200.  If I had delivered in the hospital where her pedi has privileges, she would have been free!

The $250 includes dental and vision, but the coverage isn't as good (I think it's 80/20 with free check ups and routine cleanings, free routine vision exams, one pair of glasses per year, and I think I pay full price for contacts).

H also does a biometric screening at work once a year that waives our premium for the month.

  • MH works for a big insurance company and we still pay a ton.  I do not know how much we pay a month but  our deductible is 3k a person then we pay 20% after that.  I think after 6k they pay for everything. We do have a health savings account that his company contributes to.

  • We have a special plan for employees of MHs work. When I see our EOBs I can't believe providers agree to the payouts but I get now why we paid so much on different insurance plans. We pay about 375 a month including the 1000 we put on our FSA card dental and vision. 15 copays, 25 for specialists like chiro and acupuncture, but Los GI is still 15,and eye doctor appts, they cover 1 pair of glasses perper year no limit, we pay nothing for well visits or dental. No deductible, 1500 per person max out of pocket or 3000 per family. 75 for an ER visit. 10 coinsurance for hospital and procedures but one of Los hospital stays was 12K but the EOB showed that insurance got it down to 3500 so we paid 350. Most of our prescriptions are under 1 for a 30 day supply or free through their mail in program. I don't know what we would have done if we had different insurance.
  • I'm a SAHM and DH works for the state so we pay a ridiculous amount.  I think it's like $650 extra a month for the me and DS, $1000 deductible (for both of us individually) then 20% copay. We are looking into seeing an individual plan for me and the kid(s).

It sucked last year being high risk and seeing two doctors and then DS had a dilated kidney at birth so we met his deductible in one doctor visit and that was in October.. the end of the year!

Fortunately, they are good about covering all of his well baby visits so we haven't had to pay anything for him this year.  Knock on wood.

Wow, I think we are up to around 7k for Violet.  She did have to have a couple ultrasounds for a hip issue that turned out to be nothing.

  • We are on MH insurance. We have blue cross HMO and it is free. We don't pay a premium no matter how big our family gets.we paid $90 to have DS. His office visits copays are $30 and then everything in that visit is covered 100%. I pay nothing for prenatal care. We have awesome doctors in our network so we are very lucky. Oh prescriptions are $15 and we have free dental and vision too.
  • I pay 433 dollars a mont for Gator and I. My deductible is 500 dollars, my yearly out of pocket is 1,500.....and I pay 20 percent. I don't have any charge for prenatal, and I don't pay for Gator's well baby appointments. I get 100 dollars every year towards eyeglasses or contacts. And it covers prescriptions.

  • We do not pay for our insurance; it's part of DH's benefit package.  We have a $500/pp deductible and I believe 20% of expenses after that.

  • I understand craptastic health insurance. With DD, my policy was 150/month for myself. I had a 950 deductible and the policy still required 30 percent co insurance. On top of that, my insurance plan rolled over on Oct 1. And DD was born on Oct. 3 so I paid my deductible twice.

For this baby, the policy is 440/month for my whole family. It's a 750 deductible and 90 percent coverage.
  • Threads like this always blow my mind.

I live in Canada, no duh, so I won't tell you about our insurance.
