1st Trimester

sore back muscles?

My lower right back muscles are quite sore. This is rare for me. On Tuesday I woke and was sore. I figured I slept funny. It went away Wednesday as expected but came back Thursday and is still there today...lasts all day and I can tell it's my muscles not my organs (feels nothing like AF back pain). So it mostly is painful when I twist or turn. At first I thought nothing of it but since this is not normal for me and I can't think of anything I did to myself, was wondering if any other expectant moms are getting sore backs this early? ( I'm 5-6 weeks only!)

Re: sore back muscles?

  • my back is killing me...was up last night because of it.  That was actually one of my 1st signs of pregnancy with DS #2.

  • I too have been experiencing sore back muscles this week! I thought I was going crazy or pulled something, but I can't think of what I could have done pull it.  My pain is on either side of the spine, just below my rib cage.  And I can tell its muscular pain not organs as well - I can feel the muscles moving when I walk.  I'm in my fifth week....so maybe its just something that happens?  I'm glad I'm not the only one!

  • O yea I feel ya. I've been using icy hot at bedtime and it helps a lot. I used it my whole pregnancy with DS.

  • My lower back routinely hates me - so I'm definitely familiar with this feeling.  That being said, it's obviously not connected with pregnancy in my case (more like poor posture).  A little warming of those muscles works wonders for me!

  • Yes I believe its normal.  I was having back pain so bad i call my OB and she said it was totally normal, your body is changing to prepare for the baby in so many ways.  What I found to help was to get on all fours and hunch my back then curve it a few times to stretch those muscles.  It was ok'd by physical therapy as safe. Ive also put some ice on it when I could too.  Good luck.
