Question about Epi Pen cost

Just wondering, how much does it cost others to fill their script? I pay $90 per set but I've recently read that some insurance companies will lower the patient portion to allow for multiple sets at home, school, relative's homes, etc. Just curious if this has worked for anyone. At $90 a pop I'm hesitant to have more than 2 sets at once since they only last about one year.

our copay is $50 per pen. we have 1 for diaper bag and 1 for daycare

Our allergist wrote a script for 2 sets of epi-pens (2 for daycare, 2 to keep with us) and the pharmacy filled it with one co-pay ($40). See if it makes a difference if the doctor writes it up differently.

Our 2nd set cost me $65, but I don't remember if that is more than what we paid for the first set or the same. We initially just went with one set, but we were traveling and I wanted a second... now that we have two, I feel better and we will probably always have two sets now.

Thanks. We currently have two sets of pens (4) but one set is expiring soon. Ill look into getting a refill of four at once.

My co-pay was $40 a set. But I paid zero becuase my employment covers our co-pays with a benefit card. I usually pay $20 per prescription so they might tell me I owe the other $20 when I submitt the reciept. Still really low.

$30 per pen.

The worst was when we flew to Brazil and you have to remember that every pen buys you 15 minutes of time. My doctor recommended us flying with no less than 6. Ouch.

The EpiPen people were recently at the FAAN Walk we attended, and this is exactly what they said to do - have the script written for 4 pens (2 sets) at once for one copay. Our first single epipen was one copay ($30), when the dr. wrote the next script, it was a double set and that was also one copay! This year, he wrote it for a double set with a refill. That cost me 2 copays but now, after talking to the epi people, in the future I will ask for it to be written for 2 doubles, not a double w/a refill.

Yes, in a rapidly progressing reaction, a pen may only work for 15 minutes. It is scary! Also, they advise you to carry multiples in case for some reason one doesn't work.

We paid $10 for a duo pack. So $5 per pen.

each insurance company/ plan is drastically different, I would just call them. I know we paid a standard copay $25 so it was $25 per single pen but They also offer a bulk buy discount through the mail- at the time it was prescribed, we obviously couldn't wait without having some on hand to get them in the mail but that might be an option if you know you are replacing existing ones soon. In our case, we decided to keep the 2pack on hand and just use a caribiner clip to attach a small bag containing the pens and benedryl to the strap of whichever bag is with her caregiver for the day- that way the carrier back can be tucked inside but it's really accessible and easy to verify that you have it in the correct bag.
