gassy at night?

Gassy at night?

DD is 2.5 weeks old and recently switched to all formula enfamil newborn from bm and formula. During the day she has some bouts with gas, but at night, from like 8 to 11 or so she's a mess. Inconsolable, won't sleep, just cries and screams. Of course this is typically when I need a break, so DH is completely overwhelmed. Anyone know what this is all about? I'm not ready to switch to gentle ease formula just yet, especially since she's really only uncomfortable at night.

Re: gassy at night?

  • Gas builds up over the course of the day. My lo is ebf and had the same problem. Colic Calm liquid and colic massage saved us.

  • Per my pedi, this is normal and will eventually pass. We have a similar problem with my 5 week old. Some days she has lots of gas and poop during the day and that makes for a calm night but if it has built up, ugh! Watch out. In addition to what the PP suggested, we've found a warm bath is soothing.
  • My LO was the same way (he's 5 weeks).  For the last 4 days I've done the colic massage (look it up on youtube) 3 times a day and our evenings have been so much better!  Not sure if it's just coincedence or not but I'm gonna keep doing it.
  • I had to switch to gentlease because my son did this at that age too! It was really bad at night (and it wasn't colic).. The gentlease formula really helped :)
  • Colic Calm is THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Our 3 weeks old was having the same problem for the first 2 weeks and we did switch to Enfamil Gentleease and she is much more comfortable.  Her gassy times are shorter and stretching her legs, doing bicycle moves, and using gas drops help a lot!  :) GL!
