Any Steel Magnolias fans out there?
I caught the new Lifetime version with Queen Latifah tonight. I prefer Sally Field, but the new one still made me cry like a baby.
I remembered that I watched it the night before I went into labor because I knew it would make me cry and get all emotional, which my 9mo preggo self hoped would trigger labor. And it did.
(If you haven't seen the movie and don't want it spoiled, stop reading here.)
The part where Shelby dies and the speech Malynn gives afterward are just so much more poignant now that I'm a mother. Lately, DS has been driving me crazy, but her speech about having the opportunity to give Shelby life twice (with the kidney transplant), and the speech about being the only one strong enough to stay by her side after they pull the plug, and being there when Shelby took her first and last breaths....ohmygoodness. It made me want to just go snatch DS out of bed and cuddle him.
Can anyone identify? Are there any movies that affected you differently after you became a mom?
Re: Steel Magnolias (movie spoiler if you haven't seen it)
Have you ever seen The Stepmom with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon?!?! Since becoming a parent, I will probably never ever watch that movie again. I'm almost tearing up right now, just thinking about the last Christmas scene, it's SO sad.
Oh man... yes. I have a horrible time watching A&E's Intvention for fear that my sweet baby may grow up to be some crack head and there would be nothing I could do to protect her.
I was also realizing that I cannot watch any of those baby story shows, I cry every time. I don't even really enjoy those shows, but man they tear me up!
Exactly this!!
In fact, I was just thinking about this last night as DH is OOT this week on business. Who would even notice? How long would DH try to contact me before he called someone to check on us?
