Moms with girls with long hair WDYD?

My dd has a ton of straight, fine, long hair - exactly like mine. It hangs in her eyes, and can't be "styled" out of her face yet.

She hates hats and stretchy headband things - takes about 15 seconds for her to pull them off. (So much for all the baby hats I crocheted.)

I'm scared of barrettes - my friend's daughter had one in and it went missing... we don't know if she ate it or not and it just seems unsafe for her to have a little choking hazard strapped to her head.

I think it is still a little short to put up in a little ponytail, but soon it will be too long to just leave it flopping around.

Do you have a baby with crazy floppy hair? What do you do for it?  Any suggestions for my situation? Should I just get over it and put a barrette in her hair?

TIA! :)

  • No girl here but one of three with 3 nieces 1215mths! NO BURRETTES! Better safe than sorry. Once they can reach up to the top if their head it goes from head to hand to mouth! Niece swallowed her's and then had to puke it back up damaging her esophagus and throat. She was hoarse for at least 3 days! Prob around a year old.

Either the ties/scrunchies in pony tail or pig tails! These are still cute on little girls even if all their hair doesn't go up in the ties.

  • My DD has just enough hair for me to put into a clip with a bow. I can't ever see this thing being a choking hazard. It's entirely too big for her to swallow. I gather it up on top of her head and just clip it. She looks like Pebbles lol. I guess I feel safe with her wearing it because she couldn't care less that it's there. She's not interested in it at all. I may feel differently if she were reaching for it though.
  • Heavnzangel - Sorry, do you remember where you got it, or happen to have a picture? I have been looking at stuff but can't seem to find anything I feel safe putting in her hair but it is getting wild and unruly. Someone commented on my facebook page that she looked like she could be Kurt Cobain's daughter. :( Poor grudgy baby!

This is EXACTLY what I was worried about. :( Glad she is okay. Unfortunately, my tender headed DD would probably disown me if I tried to get her in pigtails right now. She's a pillbug when it comes to hair doing time.

Frankly, I am not super great at girly maintenance for myself, so this is all new to me too! But I am afraid she walks around half blind with her floppy, sloppy hair.

  • I got these from Target:

If they slip out of your daughter's hair, you can put a stripe of glue down the inside of the clip.
