Brushing Teeth?

How often and do you use toothpaste?

Ive been freaked out since LO got teeth about this bc a friend of mine works for a pedi dentist and she said "be sure to wipe her teeth after she nurses. cavities ares common in BF babies"

AHHHEEEE!!! We only "brush" LOs teeth at night after she nurses after her bath right before bed. She doesn't have a mouth full of teeth yet either.

Im freaking out that she will get cavities. Do we need to brush twice a day? more? and should we be using toothpaste?

  • Don't freak out.  I think what you're doing is fine.  We brush DS's teeth at night after his last feeding.  We use one of this finger brushes and a little toothpaste made for babies.  He only has 3 teeth.  I think soon we'll start brushing in the morning too, just to promote the habit.

  • We use the Gerber giggles and grins (I think that is what it is called) toothpaste.  We brush her teeth every day 3 times a day but I have heard you are supposed to do it after every feeding which makes sense since we are supposed to do it after every meal.

I forgot to mention our girl has 6 teeth.

  • our ped said no toothpaste under 1 year old so we just use a finger brush once a day (I do it while he is in the tub) he has 6 teeth
  • We brush at night with a little bit of toothpaste after his bath and before his last bottle. We started out with just the plain toothbrush and let him play around with it. We progressed to actual brushing and eventually a little dab of baby toothpaste.
