My own Dad sent me this article and I admit I felt SO validated in terms of what DH and I have been listening to...the classic line, "Well I did it this way when you were a baby and you turned out just fine!" is being challenged here and I am grateful for it!
I know they are just trying to be helpful but DH and I do our best to be educated and up to date on safety issues and other things that are best for LO like drinking water, wearing shoes or not, worrying about childproofing, etc. and yet sometimes we're made to feel like we're overprotective, anal retentive, paranoid, over-researchers. (Yes I admit we are a bit overprotective but that's too bad, it's our first baby and that's our right!) Just thought I'd share since I know there are others out there who have the same frustrations. I plan to share it with my mom in the hopes that all will have an open mind.

Re: Grandparents flunk baby safety quiz (article)!
Oh my goodness, my mom was in tears one day because she basically thought we were starving our child by doing BLW, and he wasn't getting enough solids, and we needed to cut back his formula to get him to eat more solids. The kid was only 7 months old!! I tried giving her articles, but she just wouldn't believe it.
And don't even get me started on the great-grandparents. I nearly had a heart attack when she showed me the car seat someone had given her. It looks 20 years old and she had it forward facing! She did turn it backwards once I explained to her the safety issues
I am by no means overprotective. I don't have a panic attack if my kid shoves a little dirt in his mouth or chews on a piece of grass. And *gasp* I let him use a walker. But forward facing seat? That's kind of a well-proven no-no these days.
