I am being lazy watching a nightline about organ donation. It says that only 50% of people actually check the box at the DMV to be organ donors. So according to your drivers license are you an organ donor?
I'm also on the Be The Match registry for bone marrow donation if anyone ever needs mine. It was really easy to sign up, a few cotton swabs came in the mail, I rubbed my cheeck and mailed them back. You don't have to donate if they contact you, it's always on a volunteer basis, but they request that you contact them ASAP if you're found to be a match either way you decide (so if you decide you don't want to donate at the time they can find a new match).

Absolutely. But I remember hearing somewhere that having the box checked on your DL isn't always enough. You need to also make sure that your next of kin knows your wishes. That may not be true in all states, but it's worth letting your spouse know what you would like.
Good point I have heard this too.
To answer my own post yes I am, and the little heart on my license makes me smile because I am a dork like that.
Yes, I am. I had the importance of being one emphasized at a young age. My mom received a cornea transplant when I was 2. She worked with our state's nonprofit donation program for many years and I saw all the good it can do. She is still legal blind in that eye without her contacts, but it greatly improved her quality of life.

I wasn't a donor in the past, I just never checked the box. When my eyesight started to go and I realized I needed the transplant, I was in a hurry to check that box. Without that cornea, I couldn't drive or see details in my children's faces. It really changed my perspective, so i can't imagine what those needing vital organs go through.
Absolutely! The box is checked, its in my medical files, and my entire family knows my wishes. I/we will also agree to donate our children's organs should anything ever happen to them. We saw the joy organ donation brings when we lost the little girl I watched and her parents very generously donated her organs.

I am, with the restriction that they can't have my eyes. They can take everything else, but I don't want my eyeballs leaving my head. I know it's stupid because I'll be dead, but the thought totally grosses me out.
Yes! My sister is only alive because a 19 year old motorcyclist checked the box and his family had no objections. She had a kidney transplant from my mom that didn't take. The next one saved her life!

Exactly this. My wishes are documented, as in take all of my harvestable organs and then cremate me.
