Hey there!?
?How is little M doing these days? I'm a couple weeks away from izzie's birthday! The last few days have been kinda rough - my freezer stash is almost gone, so I started giving her WCM. Yesterday she got the runny nose, a diaper rash, and a really weird pooping pattern. I was totally afraid that she had some kind of wcm allergy even though she was fine with yogurt. I've been kinda down about it, because I don't have an alternative! And on top of that, Izzie is totally making solid-feeding difficult.. she doesn't want to sit in her chair and her first response is always shaking her head no! Drives me nuts and makes me worried that she's not eating enough. I was this close to considering and attempt at relactation when Dh gently but firmly said no to it. Does M eat solids well during the day?
?
Anyway, just wanted to check in. You're the only other December 2007 baby mom I know!
?Wow... haha, my check-in post totally turned in to some CW post. =]??

***BUTTING IN***
What kind of solids are you giving your baby? I definitely had to get creative. A big hit on our household is chicken blended with white navy beans. I poach the chicken with celery and carrots and then use the broth and some of the veggies when I blend the chicken. My DC seemed to prefer this over just regular chicken.
Also, I know this may sound gross, but I sometimes combine green beans with a little bit of apple. The apple tends to cut the bitterness of the greenbeans and DC will gobble it up.
Have you tried giving your DC udon noodles? Whole foods sells plain organic udon noodles which I just boil and give to DC as a snack sometimes or part of his meal. For some reason DC likes to slurp the noodles.
As for the shaking of the head, I get that too, but the best thing to do is distract the baby. I know people may disagree with my tactic, but I play a video, usually some Korean video (at least he is learning another language) while he eats. I also pop in Eebee videos, which I like much better than the Baby Einstein series and that does the trick. I know some people are weary about showing babies tv/videos, but you know, I rather have my child eat then worry about introducing a child to tv.
Hope this helps.
I am definitely trying to get creative - but thanks so much for the tips - I will definitely try them out. I agree - when she's distracted she'll eat more.?
?Thanks!?
M is doing great! We're running into some trouble with BFing - he seems to want to nurse all the time suddenly and I think my supply dropped in the past week. We've tried an ounce of WCM with Mason last weekend - he didn't down it like he will breast milk, but he didn't spit it out either. He didn't have a reaction, but only had a tiny bit. I think it is somewhat common for babies to tolerate yogurt and cheese, but not milk. Does your pedi have any recommendations on alternatives if Izzie does have a sensitivity to milk?
M also went through a phase hating his chair. He liked his portable high chair better since it doesn't have shoulder straps - doesn't like being strapped in - so we let him eat in that for a while. He's back in his regular high chair now with the straps really loose. He fusses when we put him in, but seems okay once he has his finger foods. He also refuses things by not opening his mouth or spitting it out, then pointing at what he does want. Pointing is his big thing and sometimes it's hard to tell what he wants. Here's what he'll eat right now:
-pureed fruits - any; also some of the fruit & whole grain combos from Earths Best - there's one complete breakfast jar that has a lot of protein
-oatmeal mixed with prunes
-pureed sweet potatoes, carrots, occasionally squash, but no other pureed veggies. We sometimes sneak a little spinach in with his carrots and he'll eat it that way.
-whole corn kernals & peas - I buy a bag of organic frozen mixed corn, peas, and carrots and heat a little up for him every night. He won't eat the carrots, but will eat the others - random since carrots he'll eat pureed, but not corn or peas.
-chopped banana, raspberries, pears, sometimes avocado if we put it on a little toast
-bagel, bread, cheerios, Earth's Best cereal bars
-string cheese in little cubes
-yogurt - his favorite. Once he sees the container won't eat anything else until we've convinced him the yogurt is all gone.
M is picky, but does eat quite a bit. We've started doing snacks in addition to the meals too. I hope Izzie starts eating better for you soon!
Yogurt is Izzie's favorite too! Although, the distraction is really kicking in and even that is a real battle. No joke, mealtimes take one hour - and Izzie has no idea waht the art of grazing is.?
?
One thing I've noticed - I think she actually prefers the jarred food, so sometimes if I make something fresh I'll totally just mix it with the jarred food to mask it. Silly girl.
?So heres part of the problem - Izzie has absolutely no interest in self-feeding. She never really had an oral fixation - which I thought was great, because she didn't ever need a pacifier and its been a really long while since she had to nurse to go to sleep. But she doesn't want to put anything in her mouth. I haven't been too concerned yet because she's more than willing to pick up her food and feed me! Sigh...?
?She's also teething majorly these days so I hope this whole fiasco is jsut ?a phase.
?
I talked to two different doctors and a nurse practitioner, and they're all convinced for some reason that all this is NOT due to the milk - I don't know what to think.... They said to just watch her. ?
