In the past 6 months we got our first Apple products- an Iphone and an Ipad. I'm just getting familier with them. For a myriad of reasons not worth rehashing, I'd like to get DS a used or refurbished Ipod touch for Christmas. What generation would be acceptable to get him- I want something that will do ebooks and kids games nicely, and stream music and movies. I've tried reading reviews and people say the 2nd gen is worthless- why? Would you agree? Thanks for any advice. I've never owned an Ipod other than an old shuffle.
Re: School me on ipods.
I have the first generation touch, and it is not compatible with the current version of the iPod's operating system. All the current apps run on the new operating system, so it means I can't download or upgrade any apps. I think that's what people mean when they say 2nd gen is worthless...it probably can't run iOS 6 either.
I'm not sure which model to suggest that you do get. (I'm still researching what I will buy next too). But that's my two cents on why the oldest models are probably not so desirable.
I have the 4th gen, and it stays in the diaper bag mostly for J for emergency distraction lol. I love it - great color and sound, easy updates, etc.
Make sure you check CL, especially after black friday, they'll probably be sooo cheap, because people will be buying the newest and greatest. DH sold his on CL for $100 I think, because he just wasn't using it.
I just upgraded to a 5th gen and love it. I bet you could find a tablet like a Kindle Fire for less money if you're interested in that. As for iPods, I'd look for a 4th gen.
