Baby Doesn't Like Feeling "Wet"

I have a peanut for a LO (just over 6#) and while I have a pretty good NB stash of AIOs (BG NB, SB Simplex, Lil Joeys), prefolds are the only thing that really fits right now.  My only problem is that she is adverse to feeling wet and during the night this becomes a problem.  I am changing every 2-3 hours anyways as we are up BFing, but I would love some sleep in between!  Any way to make the PF less "wet" feeling for her, or am I doomed to sposies at night until she gets a little chunk on her???

Re: Baby Doesn't Like Feeling "Wet"

  • Trial and error ... my DS also hates any kind of wet feeling. I found that a fleece liner helped a bit, but it was still pretty humid inside the diaper. I also found that he would wake up any time he peed in a sposie, because he was very sensitive to heat early on, and some brands of sposies would heat up a little when the crystals absorbed the pee. For a while I layered a fleece liner with a fitted and wool soaker and that worked really well. Nice thing about wool is that it breathes, and DS seems more comfortable. So that's my favorite nighttime solution, except occasionally I need to use a non-CD safe barrier cream with sposie, since DS is super sensitive.

Try some different things ... and if your DH is willing to do those nighttime diaper changes so you can catch a few more minutes of sleep, take him up on it! Hang in there and good luck!

  • We just started throwing a fleece liner down.

  • at that age, my LO hated being wet and needed to be changed every 1 1/2 hours (I never got longer stretches of sleep than that! Ugh, I still rarely get more, but that's another post). After a few weeks, she got used to it and never cries about a diaper ever anymore. I just have to be hyper vigilant to keep her from sitting in a wet diaper. A fleece liner will help in the mean time, but it's possible your LO will grow out of her discomfort. If not, you can buy a stash of pockets.

  • I confess--we did disposable until LO was big enough for her CDs, and having them at night was a huge bonus.  Trial and error, but if you're feeling like you'd be buying a ton of stuff for a problem that she'll outgrow in a couple weeks, it might make more sense to go disposable.  Not to say don't try other stuff first--but don't feel guilty if you fall back on sposies !
