Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Ferber moms enter

Last night was night 5 of Ferber for my 11 month dd. night one and two two wake ups and 8 minutes of crying. Not bad! Night 3 she woke 3 times and put herself down w no checkin on last one. Night 4 one wake up! Night 5 up 4 times! To be honest I haven't been able to hold off my first check in more than 10 min bc she gets so worked up. After one check in she's back out tho so it's shirt crying times. What do you recommend? Or just pump me up! Lol

  • We used Ferber at 6.5 months. It was super hard, but well worth it. My DD didn't do what you're describing, but I wonder if now your LO is thinking ok mom I played your game now I'm in charge again, or something similar. I would definitely recommend to do your best to tough it out I know it's much easier said then done. Even if you tweak the time from what Ferber said, I would try to increase it by a min or 2 each night. Any chance your LO is teething or on the verge or a milestone? DD always has poor sleep during either of those. Keep up the great work and good luck!!! :

  • I've checked for teeth but just don't think that's it. She has become super vocal and is almost in a sprint as she's getting really good at walking. I'll just keep it up. Thank you!

  • Our first few nights were inconsistent too.  We've been doing it for just over 2 weeks (so, I'm definitely no expert), and it wasn't really until day 7 or so that we started seeing more consistent sleep with less wakings. Hang in there!

  • At that age I'd stop going in at all.  Seeing you probably makes it last longer.

  • My doctor highly recommended the Ferber method and I was totally against it...until I had a crying baby every night for weeks on end after sttn for 5 months!  It really does work if you stick to it.  I know it's hard to hear them cry...I would even have to shut off the monitor which is another thing I said I would never do!  I kind of tweaked it to make it my own and what I could handle and (knock on wood) we have a baby that sttn once again!  I always went in after 10 minutes and then sometimes after another 10 minutes.  Sometimes I would even rock her a little just to calm her down.  A friend of mine never went in but she would set her phone alarm for 10 minute intervals so she could keep checking the monitor without actually going in the room!  GL and keep it up!  :)
