Question about Ergo - Infant Insert

When do I stop using the infant insert with my Ergo carrier? The website says it's to be used for babies 7-12 lbs or newborns to 4-5 months (which is kind of confusing). Should age or weight determine this?

My baby is 3 months old. He is 16.5 lbs and 27 inches long.

You don't need it most likely - it's designed to fill out the carrier so that a small newborn doesn't slump.

Thank you! I will try without the insert today. I'm sure it'll be apparent if he's still not quite ready for that yet... I just don't want to injure him or anything!

We got the ergo at 3 months. I never used the insert.

The insert is extra support for their necks and to keep them secure when tiny. You can just froggy their legs under them too if it seems like their legs don't spread out on either side. I'd say at that weight/size you probably don't need the insert. My DD3 is now 3.5 months and since about 2 months we haven't used the insert, however only just now do I feel comfortable with her sitting in the ergo with her legs to the side as she seems long/big enough (as opposed to froggy styled before so that she was sitting at the right height).
