March 2012 Moms

She just pooped in the potty!!!

We are starting EC and my LO just pooped in her potty for the first time. I, of course took photos of the poop and sent them to my husband.. lol. I'm so excited though! Here's hoping it works!

  • Ok I'm mobile so I'm a bit confused. Can't see tickers abd such. Did your 6 or 7 mth old just poo in the potty?
  • Loading the player...
  • Lolif your 7 month just pooped in the potty I think you have a genius on your hands haha

  • EC? If your 6mo old pooped in the potty I am seriously impressed! Potty training before 1 isn't my thing but if it is for you then cool. I am just in awe a 6mo old went in the potty! How do you know if she has to even go?

  • I'm honestly curious how you did this! How did you know she needed to? I hope I'm not coming off as snarky. I've never known anyone whose done it so early so I'm curious.

  • You watch for their cues, I'm still learning hers but I totally got this one today! My pedi says she sees babies potty trained by 1year when they do EC. I am so excited and really hoping it works!

  • Honestly until my child walks I am not into potty training. I'll stick with learning to use a sippy cup and crawling. We just learned how to sit up around here. But hey, what works for one family may not work for another. I stay home with Peyton and he poo's at least twice a day. I have enough on my hands washing bottles, cleaning the house, making beds, doing laundry, going to the grocery store etc. I honestly don't have time to watch for poo signs. But again do what works for you! GL!
  • I'm a SAHM too. She just started properly crawling at 6m4days and at her check up the same day the pedi said to start. She convinced me when she told me all of this.. Apparently there used to be some "wait for readiness" thing based on a study done, but the study was done by proctor gamble who happens to make a lot of diapers. The USA is one of the only countries where kids aren't potty trained until they are 23 years old, and it is harder then because they are used to going in a diaper. The USA is also one of the only countries where BF rates are really really low and formula is the norm, even though it's synthesized and can cause health problems later on, the advertising they put out there convinces people to buy it..

Congrats on the crawling! I can't wait for the LO to start. He just does What i call the army crawl. If your LO can make it happen I don't blame you, diapers are expensive. Again, GL!

Interesting! Diapers are expensive so potty training early would save you money. How about if they have to pee? I know my LO doesn't give signs. Sorry for asking a bunch of ?s. lol. GL with it! I'm good with my diapers for now. I don't think I could handle potty training right now. Too much other stuff going on currently to add something else. But I was thinking about starting at 1 or 1 1/2.

    EC = evacuation control.

If I was a SAHM, I'd give it a try, but between the DCC and the family she's with while I work, I don't think it would work out for us.

Congrats on the potty, OP, that's awesome!

Maybe the blog I read was using the wrong terminology or it's called different things that mean the same thing, I'm sure it said evacuation control because it made me laugh. :)

Thank you for saying this! All of this! My daughter got breastmilk until 5.5 months, but it was NOT advertising that caused me to switch to formula. I'm not a moron. I made an educated choice about what was best for me and my DD. It was not the awesome fuzzy duck on the Enfamil box, or Similac's awesome blue packaging.

I think the topic is interesting but this comment made me check right out.

We use formula as well as BM. Most advertisement for formula even mention how breast is still best but if you need to use formula, theirs is the best. I honestly was never talked to about formula. By anybody. All doctors, nurses, etc. all assumed that I would be BFing before I even told them.

Hahahaha. Aren't you the moron that claimed their doctor told them that there aren't any diapers in Africa? You are such a trainwreck. I'm glad you have plenty of spare time to hold your kid over the toilet until she has to poop. That doesn't work for the majority of us.

I'll be impressed if someone's 6 month old can get herself to the bathroom to go potty. Until then, this is just stupid.

And I'm not even going to touch the ignorant formula comments with a 10 foot pole. You seem like the kind of person that believes anything and everything that is ever told to you.

It sounds like she is just spouting talking points from the whole Ban the Bags bullsh*t that is going on in some hospitals right now. (Which BTW Thanks for the sweet totebag, Enfamil, but we ended up going with Similac.)

  • Congrats! I have started using word cues when DS pees or poops, and will get him a potty soon I decided to wait until he could sit on it by himself so I didn't have to hold him... Sometimes he takes a long time to poop!
EC is not as weird as some of you seem to think it is. I have also heard that some cultures don't ever use diapers. Aside from EC books, I think I saw it in a documentary, I wish I could remember the name, but I think it was kind of like Baraka only about babies around the world.

  • Other cultures don't use diapers?? Well that changes my mind about everything!!!

Oh. Wait. No I still think it's weird. And frankly I'd rather spend what little quality time I get with DD cuddling and having fun with her than hanging her over the toilet waiting her her to poop. I knew I was going to have to change diapers for awhile going into this and I'm fine with that.

  • Jealous much? Lol... sorry you don't have the time to spend with lo or something? It takes about 60 seconds from the time you see the cue to the time they go, maybe you should give it a try? And the Africa comment was referring to the tribal communities. HTH..

You mean to tell me just because one culture is doing it that your not going to!!!!!!! Shame on you for wanting to spend time cuddling with your child!  I SAH with P and I totally agree with you!  Heck, I need her daily routine to figure out how she does all this plus everything else!  Guess I just suck as a mom!  Not into EC, didn't produce enough milk to breastfeed, love pampers......she might like me since I do wear my baby!!! :P

It's hard to be jealous of ignorance and of someone who believes everything they read about formula. My FF son is doing just fine thank you very much. And I'm 27 years old and was FF as well and have no ill side effects from it.

Plus those that aren't SAHM can't really do this anyway. I barely have an hour with DS once I get home from work to spend time with him. I sure as heck am not going to spend it holding him over the toilet so he can poop.

Exactly. I work and I also love my job, so no I'm not sad that I have to go to work. When I'm home with DD, the last thing I want to do is look for her poop signs. That would probably be the last thing I would want to do even if I was a SAHM. Frankly if I could pick anyone in this house to be potty trained right now, it would be the cats.

But by all means, go on with your bad self. When you accomplish it, it will be another brag worthy little item to add to your eyeroll worthy signature.

Why bother coming over here and jumping all over her about something that she chose to do? It has nothing to do with your child nor does it harm your child. This is her choice as a parent and if she wants to do it why jump on her. You don't have to do it. No one is saying just because some other country doesn't use diapers you can't use diapers either. Everybody does what fits their life best. And this is what she chose. No reason in being snotty about her choice for her child. It's not harming her child to be potty trained early.

Not speaking on Salt's behalf, but I was offended about the OPs comments regarding formula feeding and advertising. I find the EC topic to be moderately interesting, but probably not something that would work for my situation, but to take a swipe at those of us who formula feed suggesting that it was because of advertising pressure - that is gonna get anyone riled up.
